  3. i use distill water for top up everyday. top up thru a DIY dripper. cut the base of a 1.5 ltr water bottle & hang it upside down. put a plastic air valve thru the bottle cap. hope u know what i meant. used to just pour a whole bottle of top up water into the tank or sump. then read somewhere that this may cause "osmosis shock". bad of fish & corals. cheers.
  4. dear all, i have heard this comment again from 1 of the LFS shop assistance (not the boss). this poor guy just bot an achilles tang. IMO, this is not true! it depends on the species type rather than the price. sometimes, a cheap fish can be more hardy & less white spot/ich problem than an expensive one. e.g between a damsel & a tang. other experience reefers pls correct me if i m wrong. thought i share this with everyone, especially those newbies. cheers p.s. i'm not going to name the LFS.
  5. if dun plan to feed, then better ensure hv enough lighting for photosynthesis. jus my 2 cents.
  6. hi, when it started to dissolve, did u see any brown jerry/slim stuffs releasing from the rotten branch? if u did, most likely infected with brown jerry bacteria. best solution (that i known) is hack the whole branch & throw away b4 it infects other healthy branches. same thing will happen on hammer. cheers

  11. dear all, rec'd a few pm on the DW machine. sorry, i can't remember the full specs. it's sold in Tangs orchard basement elect dept. there is this area that's selling all types of Novita products, especially the air purifier. this is the only model when i bot it. there's is a full description of specs of this unit from power consumption, size, weight to calculation of elect bills etc. cheers
  12. hi andysho, many thks for detail info breakdown of all the elements that distill water (DW) is getting rid off. i have always wanted to know abt this since i started using distill water for top up. i need at least 1.5 ltr for top up everyday for my 4ft MT + 3ft sump with 2 x 150w MH. last i bot 1 x 1.5ltr DW in ntuc was $0.65/bottle. 365 days = $237.25 found a good buy in CK Tangs basement elect dept a DW machine for $199.00 brand is 'novita' 4 ltr tap water make abt 3.9 ltr DW takes ard 4-5 hrs for cold tap water, but maunal recommends boil water which takes 1/2 the time. for all those intersted in using/buying DW may like to consider this. happy reefing.
  13. dear all, have always wanted to ask: distill water better or RO water better? ervine, sorry to steal yr thread.
  14. need good light & moderate flow. i put mine high up near the overflow. now it grown so much my glass & the overflow inlet are full of star polyps. learnt this from a fellow reefer & it actually works. but it do get stress easily & will not open for the 1st few days. good luck.
  15. Dear All, relax lah.......... actually never thought of posting it, but seems getting hot over here. i'm the one buying from bro reefaholic & he even pm me abt this $7 deal that's available. but i'm still buying from him cos acidjazz place is a bit too far for me. btw, i also know bro acidjazz myself. peace
  16. hi, though i'm using a haile, hv noticed the water flow rate affects the cut in/out time. can't tell u wat rate to use cos diff pump, pipe length, nbr of t-off, etc, etc. u need to try it yrself. set yr pump at max & monitor the cut in/out, then minimum. hope it helps. good luck.
  17. left side is the seaweed b4 & after soaking in water. right side is the nori that we mentioned many many times (those in fish soup & yong tao fu stalls). hope this helps for those still wondering wat nori is. sorry for the bad pic quality.
  18. have promised a while ago to post some pic on nori & seaweed. u may try this in bishan ntuc. it's natural seaweed for making miso soup. cheers
  19. if the white string things are coming out from the mouth of yr mushy, u or something in the tank must have touch or disturb it. try blowing it off genterly with a powerhead. leave it alone for sometime to recover. for the brain, this string like slim or mucus may be caused by neibouring corals stinging it. above are based on y own experience & observations.
  20. yes, ich king of king. yap, me tried that. bad idea.......... end up more stress & more white spots. unless u r 100% sure/confident in yr tank set up, dun try it. lost my 3yr old YT last time, most fish also kana but recovered after PBT went up lorry.
  21. hi all, totally agreed with tineng. best is to feed them their nature food sources. i feed mine with: 1) nori (so call purple seaweed for cooking soup). cheapest, $1+ sold in ntuc. 2) Tang Haven (red grape algae). last saw ReB*** having a lot. there's 2 types, 1 tat is thicker but without grapes & the other thinner & lots of grapes. i notice my tangs love the thin 1. 3) natural green seaweed (those served in miso soup). very ex, abt $7+ per small packer. found it in bishan nutc jap foods section. will try take so pic this wkend. cheers
