  1. Sorry ah... Maybe i read n understand wrong info... Was following this e-mail lesson thingy abt set up... Think its talking abt fluorescent tube. So it stated got NO, HO and VHO so i must have gotten it mixed up...

    :P

Anyway, do u haf any comments abt the huge diff in pricing? Is it cos one is NO andthe other is HO or could it be cos of brand?

  2. Hi guys,

Can I know why is there such a huge discrepancy in the pricing of T5 lights?

    I was quoted $75 for 2 blue 2 white 2ft T5 lites for $75, comes with ballast.

When i chk with another shop, i was quoted $200, 2 tubes.

Both lites will come with the bracket to fix up the lites.

I understand that there are NO, HO and VHO for lites rite? So how do I cfm which is which when i'm buying one...

  3. Hi to all the friendly people in this forum,

I would like to know if my Dymax 1200l/hr powerhead is sufficient for my filtration.

I'm only beginning to cycle my tank so only have live sand and live rocks inside.

The dimension of my tank is 48cm by 30cm by 38cm with an internal overflow system(no sump). The overflow part is 12cm by 30cm by 38cm.

After making the calculation, I realise that my tank volume without any live rocks and sand is 64+ litres. So according to recommendation, it shld be enuf. But, somehow, the flow inside the main tank dun seem to be strong... So those with some exp pls advice.

As I'm a 100% newbie, really need yr help.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Firstly, the difference in price of the rocks are due to the area that the rock is collected. If it is from Indonesia, it will be cheaper that those from Tonga.

As to the quality of the rocks, usually price will make the difference but the prescence of coralline and the lack of life (ironic right?) like algaes or sponges will secure you a cured rock. Of course another way is through a reliable source which you can do a search on here ;)

As for live sand, it is commercially available and can be bought from some shops.

But remember, for a sandbed to work fully, infauna is the pivotal factor which you can't find in the commercially available sand.

For the question on how to see whether a sand is live, usually its stated in the packaging or else its just normal sand

Ok, most of the rocks I observed has got something like a reddish brown layer on it. As I'm newbie, I can't ascertain whether are those the coralline algae thats y dunno how to choose.

Regarding the searching for reliable source, I really dun get what u mean... If need be, do u mind PM me(assuming that its not convenient to tell me here)

Thanks again and sorry for so many silly billy qns...

  5. Hi guys,

Newbie here so got some qns regarding the above topic...

    1. How come the price range of live rock differ by so much? I've seen $8/kg, $3 or $5/kg and even $16/KG!!!

    2. How do I recognise real live rocks n non-live rocks? Or rather, a better live rock versus plain live rock?(hopefully, u guys knows wat i'm trying to ask.)

    3. Similar qns here, where can I find live sand?

    4. How to know whether the sand is live sand?

    Thanks and regards...

  6. hullo maverick77!

    my tank is... 6mm 15(h) x 12(w) x 18(l) Inches.

Normally ready made tanks would come in 2feet, with the same Internal Overflow System with the same design. I made my 1.5feet (0.5 feet would be my Overflow area) So I would have a 1feet cube for my display area.

6mm should be fine, esp my tank vol is very small. And I dont really stack my rocks against the glass. My rockwork is kinda like "centralise" making it possible to view from all 3 sides :)

Filtration system? haha. All u really need is to start off right, and everything will be fine! Before you setup your tank plan on how you will want to put ur skimmer.

Skimmer is like the liver of our human body :P U need it! Try to make your tank look as cool and neat as possible too, so plan ahead what equipment ur getting and maybe u could custom the tank alittle to suit ur equipment needs :P

I honestly think all you really need for a nano would be lights, skimmer, fan, diy topup container (on a dripper) <-- i havent done it yet.. gonna do it soon :D

    CheeRRRRSSS!

heres the frontview of my tank i just took.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

That means the one I saw might be 2 ft... slightly bigger than yrs. I only intend to use lights, skimmer, filter... Not so sure abt cooler... Tot its suppose to be quite ex and if use fan, will cause lots of evaporation. :(

Actually, i'm trying to say i know nothing abt wat to put between the 2 compartments of the internal filter... If u understand wat i'm trying to say... So maybe a pic or 2 of yr internal from diff angle might help... :(

Well, most likely gg to get the tank from that shop... only thing to consider is the type of equipment to get...

Do u have any comments abt undergravel filter?

  7. Hobbes,

I'm a newbie here. Care to share how think is yr glass panel of the tank? I saw 1 tank that seems to be of the same dimension as yrs, the designing also the same as yrs. Price also $68 but I din ask whether includes the pump n such or not.

I'm interested to knoe the thinkness cos I'm worried under the weight of water and stones... The whole tank can't take it?

If possible, can u share some tips on how u set up yr filtration system?

    Thanks a lot...
