  1. wah liew...sour grapes for wat....

i am an arsenal fan(or more correctly, Anti-ManU fan  )...thus neutral to seeing Chelsea or Liverpool play AC Milan/PSV in the final....in fact i am more than happy not seeing Fergie-F-Face in the finals

just that the AC Milan vs Chelsea final will be more interesting to watch from a neutralist point of view mah....

The top team of EPL meets the top team of ISA.......what can be more watchable than that?

of coz the ball is round and it may be a Liverpool vs PSV final though, with AC Milan and Chelsea playing for 3rd/4th placings

  2. IMO, I would not use an ozonizer without an ORP controller.

    I 2nd that as well :)

Use underpowered ozonisers, while safe, may mean u are just wasting electricity without the gadget doing serious work on your water....

On the other hand, using overpowered ozonisers will be damaging not only to your tank but to you and your family.

so be effective and yet safe, drive with a *speedometer(orp meter)*, or better still, get one with *cruise-control(orp controller)* :P

anyway, here are more articles on ORP and ozonisers :)

  3. very right bandit :) .....the more components, the higher the risk of failure....

i also would recommend getting the one without the inbuilt air pump :)

henry, i would strongly advise you to get an ORP controller if the ozoniser is overpowered for your application....so that when the ORP levels reach your set point of say 450 for eg., it will turn your ozoniser off....either this method or u can just buy a lower powered ozoniser like sanders/redsea and leave it on all the time....but a lower powered ozoniser may not be able to push your ORP readings to what you desire...so that's another point to consider :)

simply put, to use a powerful ozoniser without knowing your ORP readings is akin to dropping a powerful engine into a carbody and speeding without knowing what dangerous speeds you are at....

similarly, to use a weak ozoniser without knowing your ORP readings is akin to dropping a weak engine into a car body and applying blind faith that this gadget will do what is supposed to do ;)

thus an ORP meter is like your speedometer.....whereas an ORP controller is like your speedometer with the cruise-control...it will speed up the car to the preset setting when the car slows down climbing up a steep road and it will slow down the car to the preset setting when the car speeds up going down a steep road :)

  4. hi roidan,

can you provide some details about your orp monitor?  how much does it cost?  im really interested.

    thanks!

    henry

I seriously can't remember how much i paid for it.....but i bought it at the basement of Sim Lim Tower...take a walk around and u will definitely find a number of shops selling such ORP meters/controllers....

or our sponsor EAN is selling the American Pinpoint ORP meter as i have pasted above, at $228

    http://www.eaquanature.com/store/product_i...products_id=830

but remember this does not turn your ozoniser on or off when the readings get too high or too low.....only an ORP CONTROLLER does that, which is why it is more expensive..

if you do not mind the brand and the quality, WEIPRO makes an ORP controller i believe around 300plus or so....then u can hook up your ozoniser to it and preset the activation and deactivation of the ozoniser at your desired levels ;)

  5. Anyway, here is my ORP meter, pic taken sometime back in jan 04...dunno where i chucked my sanders ozoniser and this ORP meter already....

I bought it from Sim Lim Tower, I don't think it is very expensive, your guys can check it out....can't remember name of the shop but it's at the basement... :)

it is cheaper because it just reads the ORP, but i think WEIPRO does make a cheap ORP controller that can both read the ORP as well as turn your ozoniser on/off...you guys can check that out too :)

Or can check out American Pinpoint ORP monitor here

Or the American Pinpoint ORP controller here...

  6. typrobin is right....you cannot proportionalise the beckett's air or water flow directly off another skimmer like BBK.....

for the same beckett injector even, obviously the water or air flow will vary greatly with different pumps used and even if using the same pump, design differences in the skimmer itself will result in different readings as well....

but anyway my quattro running in dual-beckett mode now on an mx100 draws 1800l/hr per injector...meaning i am drawing in 3600l/hr of air into my skimmer body currently...

of coz this is only absolute air volume and doesn't equate to bubble fineness which is another category altogether :)

just remember that a beckett has 4 ports to breathe per injector...compared to usual single port venturis ...using a strong pump is the key.....i have seen mx100 on a single beckett injector...all i can say is :lol:

  7. haha..anyway, whether it works or not....the company's rationale is explained by their spokeswoman...

no need for us to second-guess their rationale or reason behind it anymore :D in fact if one listens to people like taxi drivers or ahpeks sitting around in kopitiams for eg, one will be able to hear many hilarious versions of the rationale behind this policy or that policy esp govt policies....

anyway, here's another part of the article for the benefit of other motorists as well:

Around 41 per cent of the incidents involved the five most commonly flouted safety rules.

    They are:

Leaving the engine on during refuelling.

Smoking within the premises of a petrol station.

Using handphones on the forecourt of a station.

Remaining straddled on the motorbike while refuelling

    Buying petrol using unapproved containers.

Breaking the first two rules listed above are also against the law, said Ms Foo.

A person can be prosecuted for smoking or leaving his vehicle engine on at the petrol stations.

The penalty is a fine of up to $10,000 or a jail term not exceeding six months or both.

  8. The petrol company's main concern for this policy is not meant for the bikers to make a fast getaway if the bike catches fire.

    erhem

Said Ms Foo Hsu-Yi, manager, Media & Communications Shell Eastern Petroleum: 'Sometimes, motorcyclists do not understand that it's those vital few seconds that would save them when a mishap, like a fire, occurs at the pumps.

'It's possible that a fire could break out when fuel is spilt onto the hot exhaust of a motorcycle.

'If a motorcyclist is sitting on his bike, he may not be able to escape in time as compared to a rider who refuels while standing by the side of his motorcycle.'

  9. just my 2cents...

if u really want to be that thorough, you also have to quarantine corals that you buy from lfs, because some non free-swimming stages of ich may be present on them as well....

while there are many methods like hypo, copper.....for fishes....corals on the other hand will not be receptive to such treatment...

u may have to set up another tank, put new corals in there with suitable light, another chiller and so on......basically a fishless tank with all these corals for months to ensure totally no ich population in there before u transfer the corals into your main tank....and in the case you want to buy some new corals and put in this tank...no no no...otherwise u are resetting the time again

but luckily yours is mainly a FOWLR, so probably such 'new corals' isolation method may not be applicable for you in this outright war against ich :)

  10. wow...

shoelevy's fren "He who shall not be named" voldermort??

    borinz

    prec

    lee

    who else? :(

what i am curious about is that, after seeing such small and bleachy rics? why did you guys still proceed with the exchange?

"cos he came all the way to do the exchange"

    "cos aiya...chin chai lah"

i really wonder if the goodwill of you guys have been taken advantaged of.

  11. hehe bro...

Batman is getting married with his CatWoman

A lady who can't wait to get her claws on him :P:upsidedown::lol:

Already got robin (DA) around......will have little batgirls and batboys instead..hehe

yeah..every system is subject to abuse...now it's a matter of whether will these new policies do more good than harm or simply not worth the effort in implementing and maintaining...

ok lah...any more feedback from reefers?

  12. yeap...

the emphasis is not to judge or convict anyone.....as i am sure everyone fails expectations at some point in time or another.....

the way ahead is to provide a reference system like marinebetta has suggested via *ebay-style* ratings or a sub-forum system as i have earlier mentioned :)

    why not both...or more?

soon we need more than Justice League...maybe need Prof X and his X-men
