  1. LR, give it a try. u can go for 4 horses but start slowly- 2 horses first to try for 6mths. if they still with u then increase. the only part of keeping them is the feeding part- sealife horses(abt $5 each)will take frozen BS & mysis. try to get some mysis into their diets (for their fatty acids) cause horses on a pure BS diet become very skinny- due to low nutrition. u can treat them once in a while with a bag of live BS. dun go for the rare ones(the more colourful sort)when u just starting- they are 99.99% wild stock & are hard to feed. i've had 2 of mine in a community for 9mths.....& they never got enough food so just transferred to 2ft horse tnk. temp 28c - one 15w light & lots of macro algae to sustain 12 horses. filtered by 3tier overhead(but i'm in the midst of making an intank overflow/sump out of acrylic)
  2. common $3 & also assorted damsels $3(& i mean blue/striped)@Rainbow. hee hee. sux
  3. BB, will try tonite. depends wat time i finish. u can mix wif clowns....i haven't tried damsels yet apart from the one in my 4ft(seemed ok) but they won't be able to get enough food with damsels around. That's why i setup a 2ft just for horses.(got 2 common clowns wif them).
  4. fantom, try keong seong@ havelock for phillips. vanan, wif all those tubes, keep track of your temp. that was my battle wif my previous nano & providing enough light. 2 ft with 4 FL - shot temp up to 32c (without using a fan/chiller) & as tanzy said, FL actinic 03 would give best results. Its Somethin i try not to do without. If u go to KL, keep a lookout for the 20w T5 tubes available there (wif elec ballast)-The new FL generation. intensity of these are superb.
  5. fantom, try keong seong@ havelock for phillips.
  6. BB i shall try to make a trip to kwang's tonite....look see. was at pac marine & reefworld on sun . yeh pac marine had seahorse-- they were H.heidi (reddish)from brazil, one of the most sought after & hardest to keep. $35 each. instead i went over to reefworld & they had the common H.comes(tigertails)@$3 so i took the whole tank...abt 12pcs i think,it was 2 handfuls. sad to say only half have started eating.- mixing live BS,frozen BS,mysis & 1 or 2 feeder shrimp. there are some mixes but yet to id the odd balls(there's also a giant one abt 8").
  7. usually livestock prices depend solely on supply prices- flunctuation is very common- but a rough guide is helpful. an example is the prices of tangs..sometimes a small blue tang can go for $5 @pac marine but on sun(yesterday) they were @$8. copperband butterfly was $2 at one time, yesterday@$8 but reefworld was selling $3 each. clown triggers- depend on size & numbers collected & also season. i think its a good idea...but where to start? for fishes i can give a good range of prices but corals i dun buy so often so i'm not up to it. anybody any ideas on this? jinners- as long u dun buy from rainbow then its more or less exceptable. $12 for a tomato clown@rainbow?( normal price $3-$3.5 or even $4)! They can't garantee their tangs are net caught & cyanide free-! & in the $20 or $30 range for each its a damn big risk.
  8. live bait octopus only $2 if u want to try- should start wif them BB. tank got to be covered & they eat crabs. later must try to squeeze a look at reborn. pac marine maybe another day
  9. depends- there are soo many kinds of them. u can try a small piece of prawn or mussel(from NTUC). just put it under one of the legs.Did that to a red one i had. my choc chip starfish sometimes comes to the top & inverts- so i feed a little frozen brineshrimp or mysis right onto its mouth.
  10. ooo! never seen snails eat diatoms! saw the bugger munch right by the stuff & not eat it. (actually stopped while it it went over it) eeer, wat if its dino? got no 6500k tubes in(only 10k). but thinkin of adding extra 6500k.
  11. i'm using them....only thing is u need lots! (i using 3 for 4ft)- not much diff but still trying it out. maybe 12 pods to a 3ft. i also need more(have to go pasir ris soon)- so far only 2 of mine rooting. anybody want to go rock pooling-mangrove next weekend? i think sat or sun morning 10-11am(before hot sun comes out) but got to chk tides first.
  12. BB, have no idea wat they look like- very ex u know. when u go in - light list & prices at the pillar on exercise book paper.
  13. BB- keep a look out for seahorses for me k, reborn or kwangs. i go abt once a week but sometimes miss new shipments. was at kwangs on mon. dun worry abt health, i'll go check if they ok. thks
  14. bluebeard- when u look for FL- chk keong seong out. her list one of the largest range. 20k FL also have., my 2ft & 4ft tubes all from there- sealife tubes very ex. hong- they go by comet/candy shrimps. & also "camel" pac marine will know comet/candy. didn't see them eat corals but they did eat my purple sea slugs(all 3 of them). sad MIA a small yellowboxfish(raisin size) for 2 days already & i think its the pistol shrimp- that's my hunch.
  15. zero- dunno bout the rest, i just tested by my cheapo method. 18mths of trial & counting. 4x36w PL+ 2x FL over 4ft. 28c is good enough for me now & everyone inside look happy. The MH i interested is for a near future tank(i already have the chiller & another set of 4x PL). Kel- boh pian!! error from the start so gotta make do. ice thing no problem- throw everythin in the hang on. i spend more time feeding all the tanks then anything else.
  16. oh! maybe the same one i saw them get- the first day. its abt a shoe size 7". Lh i think must make assam but because of the cross breeding i a little scared to eat them(the big kok ones they inject female hormones)- they start to do it to those abt 6mths of age. somemore now they use *"laser"* (led lights) to enchance LH colours..........wah!!! sometimes i think the lump is cancer. how come only in balestier can eat stonefish & LH? heh heh. seabass- u can taste if u steam.
  17. zero, without a chiller even PL will give u temp problem. i guess u have some spare FL at home, try running it now while u cycle ur tank- try fans, try raising lights. watch temp if u can get it lower than 28c do let me know. i can get it to 26c using a hang on running tank water thru ice+ a fan blowing. once 3ltr of ice melts(acts as my evaporation top up) the water stays @26c for 3hrs then 27c for another 2hrs before going back to 28c. i freeze all my additives into the ice cream tubs with tap water- NON aircon room. it was 29-30c before installed fan. Even when it was running FL. With PL it went to 30-31c. Mainly soft corals & fish will survive this kind of temp- nothin in the SPS range.
  18. kel, all freshwater fishes taste like that. pui! only way to kill mud taste is to rub in tumeric & fry. actually those farmed seabass also starting to taste like that. i think its due to exercise & feed. u never notice?
  19. tigershark, one thing i forgot to mention i observed that wif water that is hard or wif a high ph....they die off, wif 100% tapwater they die like that too. only success i had of long term was wif aged water- ph 6ish, stained brownish by bogwood. there will sure be deaths- but usually only within the first few days. More than 50% stay alive. another thing is not to overcrowd them. a 2ft tnk then i put 1 pack. other wise in plastic tnks i just keep a handful. keep the smaller ones, pluck the head off the big ones & peel shell then feed other fishes- u will be surprise that clowns relish them. if u can train them to eat market prawns, so much easier & better.
  20. if u keep them in old tank water- wif a sponge filter & feed them frozen bloodworms- they last ........... until u need them. Maybe a sprinkle of aquarium salt. can use bucket, toyoyo containers, plastic tanks(anything). just saw mini versions of them(in a tnk wif discus), the eggs must have hatch & they survived plankton stage. i have a habit of keeping them till they release eggs then i feed them to the triggers.
  21. was at rainbow during lunch. their indoor pond type marine tank got a black tip reef shark in it. FYI= 4 stripe damsels $3 each, tomato clowns $12 each, copperband butterfly $15 each, blue tangs $18,seahorse $15. Your choice,Your money. a damsel @$3 and a tomato@$12 is really pulling a fast one heh heh! copperbands@pac marine $2 each.

phang, all the posts were for livestock, so i think its really ok to put up for adoption so they can go to a better home. but equipment wise..hardly see. K my list. 1) 1x jebo type skimmer(needs a powerhead to work) 2) 2x orca25 air powered skimmer(these too old & worth nothing-maybe only harvested algae or a snail ) 3) 1x small canister filter(abt the size of a 2ltr coke bottle) for 1ft or 2ft tnks. !!mouth priming!! Oh! & FW(1 bottle snail killer unopened) which i never dared use. & a co2 glass diffuser. (soz!-had to list cause been in my cupboard for ages)
