  1. Photo skill quite lousy and camera not that suitable for taking such shots.. so colour just dun seem to tie visually.. Anyway left tank shot..
  2. In Oct 05. All subsequent photos are taken with Lumix (just compress/resize without edit)..
  3. It has been about 1yr now. Most SPS are at least few mths old.. Wanted to share some pics here (since it is this "place" that i get to know a lot of people & knowledge). This is my 3rd setup for the past 5yrs or so. Was hoping that it will stay for a long while but not too sure now given that i need to travel aboard for a extend period again.. *sigh* Anyway, this tank is 3'x3' lighted with 4x 250W bLV 10kk and 2x T5 actinic. Total current movement is slightly less than 30k l/h.. Let begin! With a old photo back in Feb_05..

    Acrylic glue

Too bad... me a guy. But thanks anyway for the advice. Btw, mine is confirmed acrylic but is chloroform available anywhere?

    Acrylic glue

Hi, just wonder anyone know where to get acrylic glue? One of my acrylic holder (for my wavemaker pump) break and i need to get the glue to fix it back.. Thanks in advance..
  6. Hi, i will need to change out my calcium media really soon. I am currently using ARM and initially thought of changing to Rowalith but realised that our sponsor has run out of stock. But then, i having problem even trying to find ARM media as well. So anyone has any idea where has it at a reasonable price?
  7. Mine should be reasonably good with minor diatom on acrylic wall only (no other algae).. So definitely not water related. But i have to say that this bulb is really bright though..
  8. Interesting!! It is going to be my first reply in Kopi-Tiam (i think so)... I just want to say that even the Sep 10th photo is pretty cool. And WL's shoot is even better. Although this thread becomes a laughing matter, i think the intent of this thread is good and hopefully some can take a shoot over the weekend morning (i dun think most of us ever bother to take such a shoot) and can show us.. Cheers!
  9. Farish, i have the same impression too. And i am also wondering whether it is due to my e-ballast too (talking about DE here, not sure about SE)? But then again, 14k Phoenix bulb on my tank do look more blue when compare to others without e-ballast... So i am lost too and currently i have remove one 14k and replace with 10k BLV and overall it looks less yellowish/greenish as compare to the 14k...
  10. And btw, those $80/$125/$180 per pair are not just the normal true percula clown fish, they are supposed to be black percula clown. I have seen some fellow reefers who bought from them that turned to fully black and white after few mths..
  11. It is the IKS turbo pump. Just like the tunze stream with flow rate that can be varies (control by the IKS controller). But of course not as powerful with max 3500l/h. The reason i used it is cos' it cut down on the amt of piping, pumps that is visible in the tank.. (ie. not so prominent as the tunze). And btw, there should be min heat transfer from this pump. Go take a look at IKS website.
  12. All, thanks for the good word! haha.. on Ian's behalf too! Initial plan is to use 8x 39W T5 (which explain why my tank is shorter than normal) but when i start running the system with just 2 pumps (one for return and another for skimmer) and without light, it is already at close to 29 deg. So i was thinking realistically there is no way for me to maintain at ~28 deg (when light is on) with just fans (although that is what my big top up box and kalk stirrer is for). So in the end, still has to use a chiller and my plan change to 4x 39W T5 (mainly actinic) and 2x 250W DE BLV 10k. Luckily my concept of using just a few big rocks do work out. And i like your tank too! I have been following your thread.. There will only be a few fishes in my tank and looking through their characters, i thought the AT should be the first one to go in. It is shy and easily stress and being the first fish should help him to overcome some of it, hopefully.. Btw, i admire how Hon can keep this fish without feeding and i actually follow suit. But can tell that it is slimming down.. So for the past few days has been feeding him with pellets (which he does eat!).. Keeping finger cross.
  13. And again, i have to said that i am a satisfied customer! With the limited cabinet floor space that i can fork out for the skimmer, there is no way i can squeeze in any other 8" beckett skimmer if without Ian's customisation! And maintaining either the collection cup or the beckett nozzle is a breeze...... Finally i am done! Time to sleep and appreciate your time to read through this lengthy thread. Hope it can be useful!
  14. Must be really sleepy... forget to add in what Ian's most proud of!! his one touch that can dismantle the beckett nozzle within one sec!
  15. And finally after some "play around", manage to obtain the nice foaming that i have been dreaming of..
  16. One of the biggest problem for beckett skimmer users! micro bubbles... Initial plan is not to put in foam (reduce maintainence work) but looking at it there is no way out. Have spent quite a bit of time to reduce the bubbles going back to the return.
  17. After one day of running the skimmer (with the 5 pieces of live rocks) and then was still learning how to tweak the performance (the first few days has been set to pretty wet skimming)..
  18. I am impress with how nicely the joint is made and the steps specially made to prevent bubbles trapped. Btw, after been maintaining this skimmer for the past 10 weeks+, i really love the thumb screws. It is really useful and easy to dismantle the cup.
  19. Ian has helped me to fully optimise the space with the huge cup that come with the internal overflow chamber at ~5.5" diameter.
  20. Now moving on to Ian's beckett skimmer... and again it is customed made especially for me to "squeeze' into my limited spacing cabinet. It is 8" body with 28" height with super huge collection cup!
  21. In conclusion, i am very satisfied with the workmanship and the attention to detail. And the clarity is really solid. But what is most outstanding is the excellent service that i have gotten from both of them. To be honest, i think i am quite a difficult customer with lots of requests (this one i need to add in, that one also must take care blah blah blah) and they have been very accommodating! Thumb up! But what is worrying me now is how to maintain the tank without scratching the tank? I am learning on this and will update more on it when i have more hand-on..
