  1. Carbon more for removing impurities, making ur water clearer n not so yellowish. To tackle nitrate, most effective way is algae scrubber. In fact I've seen 2 not 1 succesful ones in keeping nitrate low. But digiman, no sand then no need snails? IMO snails dun realli go tog with sand leh, never seen my snails stirring sand
  2. I agree with Digiman, just use those hang on type of filters can do, this is what i used when first started out. but since u have IOS, even better, can put carbon media (with nylon bag) inside. if u worried, can add in those airstone old school type of skimmers (i have a few lying around). Get few big pieces of liverock, add water, add sand (live anot not an issue, cos after cycling 1 month everything is live). Use salt mix change water every 1-2 weeks, 10% shld be enough. DO NOT DO WATER CHANGE WHILE CYCLING TANK. And dechlorinator additive to remove chlorine before mixing water. No need RO or DI. Then ensure u have good lightings, can even utilise an algae scrubber inside ur IOS. I saw one bro using this to keep his nitrate in check. After 1 month, test if parameters ok, then add in nano fishes such as gobies, clowns (skunk or ocellaris, no others), blennys etc. Tangs not advisable. Cleanup crew can include sand star, turbo snails, hermits, shld be good to go. Corals since the tank is small, parameters sure fluctuate and no chiller, try to keep simple n hardy ones like mushies, zoas, gsp etc. Most importantly is got discipline to do good husbandry la. Hope this helps
  3. Very nice frags u have. Very tempted to get a few. but doubt my tank can support
  4. i used rio20 tee-off to return n chiller, both sides valves opened fully. not sure how much of flow goes to chiller, but takes 1hr cool from 29 to 28 degree and kick in abt every 2+hrs
  5. Just went in today. Ah beng got shipment, but iwarna too far in never walk in. luckily walk out abit got cab drive pass
  6. Route march in is good idea, exercise plus reefing hobby comes together. But the shag part is walking out with bags of corals. u reallie need more cabs to come out from there
  7. Yeah my question is for u bro. dunno how come my iphone suggested broNeo when i typed bro. haha. thanks for ur comprehensive write-up btw, which of ur frag is more tolerant towards lower lighting?
  8. BroNeo where's the collection location? Looking at my tank specs can keep digitata?
  9. I interested in corals. Can list down? And what are the common fishes?
  10. so, what did u get from CF today?
  11. Hi bro, I had pm u abt the large one
  12. from experience, yellow more aggressive than scopas. so wanna intro smaller yellow. if new yellow bigger than scopas, then think scopas will have difficult life from then on.
  13. got any pic of yellow tang for size comparison? interested but dun want it to whack my scopas
  14. Nice tank man. Looking forward to ur setup pics. Hope when u do ur rockscaping, they're secured enough. Once u start adding water, some bouancy issues might make ur rockwork unstable.
  15. mine non controllable leh. using 2x seio 620 and 1x hydor K2. kinda strong total 7100 lph. but as long as the tentacles are still extended out from skeleton, not retracted totally, it's fine right? only they're blown against their skeleton
  16. when lights are on they're extended, but not as big cos the wave like keep blowing them back against their skeleton. not sure whether this is healthy in the long run
  17. Guys, say if my frogspawn, hammer, mushies caught the rebounded or deflected wave off the tank wall, is the wave considered strong? I now using 2x seio 620 2400lph wavemaker at both corners, blow towards the centre of front wall. Trajectory seems like deflected wave is directed at the corals from their front. Will that be a problem?
  18. I believe in doing drip acclaimatization for any livestocks introduced into tank, esp inverts like shrimp n stars. Butthe most I do for 1.5 hrs only. No patience for 4 hrs!
  19. Sad huh.. One of the most established n active reefer giving up the hobby. Hope u'll be back bro!
