  1. great looking tank bro....ur attention to detail is great. i think ur parents insistence has made you to strive to make the tank look so neat!!!!!!

however if possible to try to shift your automatic air freshner on top somewhere else. don;t think its good for your tank.

great work anyway . potential to look really nice...take your time.

  2. hi loster....

i hope not to offend you or anything but i think the lights do play a part. high intensity lighting does promote algae growth. especially if there is a change from a lower levels of lighting.

and you are rite...trace elements such as phosphates do contribute significantly.

  3. hi bro,

sad to hear that your sps is not doing very well. don;t worry. they are like that. tendency to develop RTN are more likely for things like hysterix. Once the signs develop there is usually little or nothing that one can do to reverse it. However if your sps still has some pink bits left, why not frag it and leave it at different places in your tank. its still a hit or miss thing but IMO worth trying.

  4. hey think your tank is almost complete in terms of equiptment eh? congratulations...maybe the last step in a RO unit and a calcium reactor.

btw the nitrata reductor is not simple plug and play device. requires constant monitoring...think u should invest in an ORP.

  5. dear jervis,

great to know that you are taking so much effort to remove the unwanted critters.. i didn;t do it before i added my LS. It was really a headache to remove them after that. your effort will certainly be rewarded.

  6. hi jervis,

i said that things seem to be going too fast cos i saw your plans for adding LS by next weekend...well its not really a bad idea since the 3 footer is pretty big and would be able to buffer your LS from you NC. but its just after that sit back and relax and let things run for a month at least before putting in new things.

sometimes the best way to cycle a tank is to sit back and relax and try to forget that you have a tank for a month.. (pretty hard to do when you have it staring in your face)

    just my little experience.

  7. dear jervismun...

    your tank's looking good. congrats...

just a few things wanted to point out. I don;t want to get into the complex subject of DSB or plenum. but it just looks like you have chosen to have have a rather shallow substrate. Its either that or there is a recess below the tank where the rest of the sand is hidden.

a shallow substrate can give problems as collecting deritus. However if a DSB doesn't turn you on...(personally i think the deeper parts can look ugly over time) try to put at least a depth of 2 inches.

With at least 2 inches you can achieve oxygen poor areas of the sandbed under the rocks. I believe you would be able to achieve a more stable water chemistry with this.

  8. dear jervismun, as for the transfer of LS...i think you should plan it properly. Its difficult to exlpain how it can be done step by step since only u will know your setup compleletly.

But as for the ideal situation....it would be best to set up ur new tank first then add a bit of your old sand plus the new substrate. Also add about half of your old tank water and new saltwater.

REMEMBER THAT YOU WOULD kick of your ANN cycle. you could not be able to avoid it. However using the elements from your old tank would certainly help.

transfer your LS stage by stage if its possible ( read patience)

Whatever the case..if you decide to hurry things up , to be on the safe side...i will buy a large quanity of Zeovite....to absorb the ammonia.

the last thing you want is all your LS dying on your in your new tank.

  9. thanks a lot nic a jon...

welll its still not fully opened up yet. yeah i heard its very hardy but need to wait i guess. i don;t want to change its position too often cos i think it will stress the coral .would probably change its position after a few weeks.
