Is it better to change water using saltmix or NSW from the LFS? The trace elements found in slat mixes should be more complete than NSW right? We don't know what the NSW was used for or where it came from and how old it is.
I have a piece with 38 orange polyps on one side and 13 yellow polyps on the other. Total of 51 polyps though the entire piece measures no larger than a clenched fist.
The yellow ones are larger while the orange is smaller. Funny thing is the 2 colours open at different timings/conditions. The orange side opens whenever feeding ocurs. The yellow side opens consistantly after lights out and require strong currents to open. Remember the bottle thingy, Once in the slower flow rate of the bottle enclosure, the yellow side failed to open dispite feeding, once the cover is removed, it opens after lights out even when no feeding took place.
I think it depends on the environment your tank is placed in too. I have a 2ft cube in my bed room. The airconditioning is on from 10pm to 6+am. I can get a range of 25 to 28 deg daily. In this case, I switch on the lights (daylights) at 530pm. This helps to keep temp down.
Hey Elune, guess what, I went back and immediately adopted the idea and squirted a mixture of phytoplankton + cyclopeeze into the enclosure, guess what, the orange side started opening, all 36 ployps, not big but a noteworthy improvement. Thanks so much for sharing, it's a great method to intro suncorals to feeding!
OMG Elune, that's a great idea. However, I read from Henry's thread that strong currents are needed to stimulate the sun corals for them to open, won't the bottle eliminate this?
Thanks for your replies guys. Guess I will continue dosing marine snow and try the blend of cyclopeeze + pytoplankton. Currently, the yellow suns are opening consistantly after lights out but the orange part has yet to do so.
Hi guys,
Just got a piece of suncoral, half orange half yellow. Understand from the LFS that this is a rather hardy coral but getting it to open can be rather tricky. As they are non photosythetic, they need to be target fed. The owner advise me to prepare a blend of Cyclopeeze + Prawn + Mussel blend to be fed to the corals weekly for best results. Would appreciate if anyone could share their experience
Also, Hope you can help me out on the types/brands of liquid coral food that have good reviews for use with suncorals. (for daily dosing). Currently using Marinesnow from 2 little fishes from 2 years ago (kept in the fridge all this time)
Went to petmart and the guy there took it apart and pushed the white impeller rod inwards and it worked again. Now still going fine in my tank. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I bought a brand new Seio 820 from Petmart last weekend and after jus 5 days of usage, it died on me. Anyone experienced this? Is Seio really that unreliable? Will Petmart replace the product?
