  1. How many people would be interested in getting a RO/DI unit if I manage to get it for less than SGD$500? Obviously the more the merrier and it would bring the overall cost down significantly.
  2. same design as the one i have in mind. btw, where did u get the basket/container with the slits all round? would it be possible if you provided more close-ups of your overflow sys from different angles?
  3. 4 T5 tubes will already cost u $200.
  4. Haha..according to my experience...no other fish of the same size. Need to keep with much larger fish. The trigger is really siao one
  5. I'm sorry but I do not quite understand what you specifically mean self-prime. I only understand it from a canister filter point of view when stating self-prime. For the pic that I had attached to my previous post, as long as there are no air pockets in the system to break the siphon, except at the open end, the overflow will continue to function as per normal when water is pumped into the tank. If there is no water going into the tank, the overflow ceases to function, vice versa. When the unit is placed in the water, there will be an air pocket at the first 'U-shaped' bend. The principle is to remove the air in that pocket so that it is filled with water to start the siphon. This removal can be done via ###### the air out through a plastic tube or incorporate a normal control valve to allow the air pocket to disipate while water is filling up the tube. The water level in the tank will always be the same level of the 'T'-joint at the open end. (basically at the tip of the 5th arrow from the left on the diagram). I hope this makes things clearer. The only problem I can think of with the funky one is starting of the siphon for the overflow. There should be an outlet where air pockets can escape from the bends in the tube.
  6. Suck up air? You mean the open end at the top of the system? Tat is essential control mechanism for the self-control overflow system. Without that part, the whole system cannot self-regulate. This system is not self-priming but it doesn't take much to start the siphon effect.
  7. 1) Queen Angel aka Holacanthus ciliaris 2) Maculosus Angel or Map Angel aka Pomacanthus maculosus 3) Passer Angel, King Angel aka Holacanthus passer 4) Green Mandarin, Striped Mandrinfish aka Pterosynchiropus splendidus 5) Black Longnose Tang, Black Longnose Sailfin aka Zebrasoma rostratum 6) Firefish But I don't think I will ever have the good fortune of ever keeping so many angels.
  8. Thanks AT! Need to get the correct keywords for getting the right hits. Apprecitate the info. More power to you dude! (and your tank too..)
  9. I understand that some reefers here use super glue. Question: 1) Glue is applied when the rock is wet or dry? Won't this cause some die-off of the LR? 2) No problems of toxicity of the glue in SW? How about epoxy or some type of resin? 3) Any other methods besides gluing and gravity defying ones aka stacking. Suggestions please.
  10. I'm not sure but I dun see why not.

    Canopy

u mean using the T5 mounting clips to secure the tubes as opposed to making provisions for the endcaps?
  12. which '+' connector? the one in the background? If that's the one, I would think that it's there to act as a control point for the difference between the pressure heads of the inlet and the whole overflow unit.

    Canopy

FuEl, I assume that you want to construct a canopy for your 4 T5s...how many fans are you thinking of installing? I wonder if it is possible to squeeze 6 T5s and 2 x 80mm fans into a 36" x 18" canopy. Any ideas? I think 120 mm fans are just too big. I'm also interested in contructing one....so it could possibly be cheaper if we made it together. Interested? Just exploring some options.
  14. I'm constructing an overflow using PVC tubes only too. Made a smaller scale one and in principle, it worked. So am in the progress working on a larger one for my 3ft. Will try to put up some pics when I'm done...but that's when I actually find the time to redo my whole tank again. But you may find this useful.
  15. Is the wiring diagram right? Cos I dun seem to recall the one on my OSRAM looking like that. The instructions (diagram) are printed on the eballast and which brand are you using? Just need someone to confirm this as I'm not too sure.
  16. am also interested in a canopy. how do u make one out of PVC? Kindly let me know pls. Thanks.
  17. Thanks... Good stuff...some inspiration when I redo my tank again. I assume you don't lean most of your rocks against the glass.
  18. Danano, Would like to know if your overflow box is DIYed? Seems like it from the pics. And what thickness glass are you using for your 2.5ft nano?
  19. Thanks dude...will be looking forward to that piece of information. Most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
