  1. I've always wanted to have a bubbe coral in my tank! Thats my sole reason of starting this hobby! But wat are its requirements? Light? Food? Flow? Do they sting? Any help is appreciated!
  2. Hi guys, I dunno if its Iodine or Iodide (but u know wat i mean rite? ) Wat re the benefits of adding this ? I was told its good to ur fishes color... I was also told its good for mushrooms.... so which is correct?
  3. In the first place, if you can't afford even the basic test kits, you SHOULD NOT be even starting on this hobby. Those are lives in your captivity, and you are responsible for their life and death! You are gonna learn this lesson the hard way. When you first joined this forum, you have already recieved numerous advise on starting up ur tank and the cycling. And PATIENCE is the moral of most of the advices reefers in here gave you. Having so many livestock in ur tank DURING cycling is a definate NO NO. Dun whine about Test Kits being expensive, these are things that are necessary and worth the investment. Buy the best and the most accurate brand! Dumping the fishes in ur tank to "test water" is a very irreponsible thing to do! Shame on you! I can imagine the day u go into an operation threatre and while on the operation table, the doctor tells u that their hospital cannot afford blood-pressure test equipment, and oxygen-level monitoring system... - Cyanide poaching is a method of capturing marine livestock thru cyanide poisoning. Cheap and efficient method. Methods of knowing whether your fish is caught via cyanide poaching is to either ask the LFS (like as if they'll tell or they care enuf to know), or to monitor with ur eyes. Cyanide caught fishes have very deep colors (for e.g. nemo, its suppose to be orange, but a cyanide caught one will look reddish-orange), and their poo poo is whitish... Bro Alantis: NO, your should at the very least test ur ANN components during and after cycling (i suggest after the 2nd week and the 3rd week). Testing only Salinity / Specific Gravity is NOT suficient.
  4. wait till u see bro Elune's seafan... they're 101% opened and swaying in the current... so nice~~ =)
  5. yep, get more rocks to block its access to the pump. but rather than that, i suggest you look into ur water parameters of your tank as well as the lightings. or else ur anemone will keep on shifting its position. oh, and pls, either remove those damsels, or remove those poor little Dorys (blue tang) and nemo, i guess they're suffering from damsel bullying them. And is that a white spot on ur nemo? or is that reflection?
  6. Star fish do eat film algae (hard to see film algae with ###### eyes), But for your 1 feet tank, i suggest u keep to ur turbo snail, and MOST importantly, dun keep corals.
  7. hermit crabs are scavengers, they eat almost anything. Left over foods trapped on liverocks in areas where the water flow can't sweep thru, these hermit crabs will clean up for you. dun have to worry.
  8. That look like a nudibranch to me. Refer to: Nudibranch Adoption Thread from the thread, the picture and description posted by killerwhale... it looks similar. If its REALLY ( and i guess MOST PROBABLY) is a nudibranch, below are what I learnt from bro Elune: 1) it feeds on sponges; thats why it comes along with the sponge your bought. 2) its harmless, becuz the fishes will ignore it, cuz they know its poisonous. 3) its graceful as nudibranchs like to "free fall" in the tank and flow along with the current a bit. Its amusing to see them stretch their body to reach another rock. 4) its a time-bomb as well. if physically hurt or died tragically, they will release toxin harmful to the surrounding waters (for a while). Fishes will be irritated. If your skimmer or water flow is low, and the toxin stays around for too long, your tank might crash.
  9. Hi guys, wat are the diet / lighting requirements for Yumas? Can feed with Phytoplantons and mysis ? 55w PL lights sufficient anot?
  10. nope, koran angels' stripes will spread and their looks WILL change also when they turn adult. Imperator (Emperor) and Koran angels can grow up to 15-16 inches, perhaps more, and they need lotsa water to roam in. Oh, and its also more suitable for a Fish-only tank, becuz these angels have a tendency to nip at corals. good luck.
  11. in addition to bro's Hondaker's reply, before u turn into the gate, u can see a banner with 2 arowanas facing each other. =) cheers.
  12. HI guys, Can help me ID this star fish? ( or izzit a starfish at all?) I found it on my seafan (blue sakura look-alike). Think its a hitchhiker. Is it reef safe? Will it attack / eat my seafan? Thanks!
  13. Hey~! DO check out the Koran Angel too. Rather similar. I initially intended to keep this fish too! Becuz of its nice pattern. But bro Elune told me when it grows bigger, the stripes will spread and gray out, metamorphosize into a totally different looking fish! Elune told me to think twice before keeping this fish; not to buy if its only this juvenile look of the fish u intend to have. as to how fast, prolly around 1 year and the size and stripes will spread east-west.
  14. Hyposalinity is a treatment method. One should NOT maintain the tank's SG to be at that low a level for prolong period. The targeted Specific Gravity is 1.009 (the usual Sg is between 1.023 - 1.025). But this 1.009 target should be progressively achieved over a period of 3 days, not instantly. (Someone correct me if i m wrong; cuz i m still new). Hypo cannot be carried out in main tank if ur tank consist of invertebrates and other corals. Only FOWLR tanks can hypo. but Hypo is recommended to be carried out in a QT. Hyposalinity has 2 obvious advantages. 1) the ICH parasites cannot tolerate the low SG. 2) ur fish do not need to much effort to expel salt from its body (since salt content of the water is low), so it allows the fish to channel more of its energy to fighting the parasite. Do read up the thread on Hyposalinity at the Diease treatment and parasite control thread. just my 2 cents.
  15. Oh bro Jeremysiah, looking at ur stats.... u registered this account this afternoon just to reply to this post? might if u post us a picture of ur tank and let us see how it looks like?
  16. OMG, you just broken the record for amount spent on buying such small marine tank--- $900??!! There was another thread where a guy bought this nano-tank from Tampines Mall for $850. At least its 10 times better than what you are having now. Jef's $850 tank from TM Sis trenyce 's almost bought another $850 tank Bro Elune's WARNING of TM's LFS Live Rocks (not Life rocks) no doubt are good bio-filters, but adding Live Rocks (LRs) to your tank will start another tiny ANN cycle, and considering this amount of water volume sharpheadloti (french loaf?) 's tank has, such an action will significantly affect the water properties of the entire tank. All LRs SHOULD be in place before kicking-starting the ANN cycle. after the cycle starts, dun add anymore in to disrupt the process. If u are really gonna add more in, exercise caution, becuz as the bacterias / algaes on ur LRs (uncured) dies off, the Ammonia level will spike, everything will go haywire. Shrimps are considered "invertebrates". Most Invertebrates require very long and slow drip acclimation process of at least 2 hours and above becuz they cannot adjust quickly to even small changes in pH, temperature, and alkalinity, and intolerant of extreme nitrate levels.Answer this question: Have you tested your water parameters yet? MINIMALLY, Ammonia / Nitrite / Nitrate / Specific Gravity and Temperature of the water in your tank now? Your shrimp most prolly died becuz it couldn't adjust to the water. Check out this site on CLEANER SHRIMPS 3ft plus? Let me give an estimate of 100 cm ya? so its 100cm x 40cm x 14 cm tank. There should be around 14-15 US Gallons of water. I feel, 5 small fishes (2") or 3 medium sized fishes (3"). Stay to damsels or Chromis (which is also damsels). Yes, get a skimmer. Dun let Alantis sway u into another expensive investment. Also, AVOID the TM shop. its another place for Chai Taos; nothing to learn from there anyways. The guys here said the TM shop uncle is more pro in freshwater tanks, NOT marine ones. Note that I bought my skimmer under $40. The better ones are below $200. Anything at a higher range for your tank size is overkill already ( no point ya? U dun need a military tank to kill a mosquito - same concept). Beside, I feel you are gonna have a hard to figuring out how to install your skimmer to your hang-on tank without spoiling the asesthetics of it. Do show us how the result will look by posting another picture after u fixed on your skimmer. share share in this forum ya? Good luck to you. Welcome to SRC and let the fun begin...
  17. Nice lobsters bro Elune and bro ady got there! I think I would want one too! $4 is quite a bargain. It sure looked like its $8 worth - very stunning color. I love purple. (bro Elune u didnt bring me along... ) Hey , i checked out the link bro kennethk provided. its says : "The Reef Lobster is described as peaceful, and it will ignore sleeping Wrasses or healthy fish within the aquarium. Caution must be taken when incorporating into a reef aquarium, as it may harm small fish and invertebrates.". Well, from wat I read... i dun think this lobster will disturb the usually active (healthy) and aggressive damsel fishes you have. Unless this lobster have claws LARGE enough to "kiAp" your fish. heh heh
  18. Thanks bro Iantoh, bro nakazoru, and bro kennethk. with ur input, i have further questions to ask. quite newbie to ur terms. 1) In this case, its 1 white and 2 blue? or 2 white and 1 blue? 2) I m not familiar with the names of clams. how many types are there? I only know Corcea. So how do Squamosa and Deresa clams look like? Can show me a picture of them? Gimme a newbie pictorial introduction~? 3) What is D & D or ATi ???
  19. HI guys, I need advise on which type of lighting for my 2 feet tank. (around 15 US gallons). I planned on keeping the following in the near future: 1) Bubble Coral 2) True Octo 3) Yumas 4) Clams (Corcea) 5) Zoos Question is: Is a set of T5 HO (Daylight and Actinic blue) enough? I dun wanna use MH becuz I will end up buying a chiller to cool down the heat. any input is much appreciated!
  20. ah, i read up the link bro Darryl85 mentioned at marinedepot on the characteristics of Chromis. interesting; i might wanna keep a few when my tank is up. original msg from Elune: bro Elune, u got ticklish humor as usual~ kept teasing ppl; me newbie u also never let me off. btw, thanks for the Lor Halus trip, dinner, n sending me home. That place so far in + no bus. Next time u go, remember to bring me along k? Nice car u got there, wats its called again? raf four?
