  1. Hi bro, I understand that some starfishes are more prone to "wasting" especially if the tank condition is poor, however the legs disappeared over night. Within 6-8 hrs a healthy starfish which was still moving around had all its legs chopped off. its just too fast I think. The starfish was quite a good sandbed assistant toegther with the sea cub. now scare to put another star in... but i cannot think of how to identify the predator or even what it can be. worms or crabs? Help Help!!!!
  2. Thanks for the readup. I did not see any pieces of legs. All that is left is the middle part of the body. confirmed dead as rotting liao. The night before its still ok,next morning all legs gone and by afternoon, start to have rotting smell. dun think got Harlequin Shrimp in there. at least i did not intentionally introduce it in. any ideas??
  3. Hi Guys, I have a 3 feet DSB (7" depth) with LR, Cheatos. The DSB is setup about 4-5 months ago. I have cleaned the sand b4 setting up the DSB. Recently I added 2 starfish and they got eaten up!!! something is eating the starfish leg by leg... they managed to consume all 5 legs over night. I cannot see any predator at all. I also have a sea ###### that is doing ok. Any idea what could be causing this??? or how i should solve the problem? Please help
  4. His books are really in good condition. No difference from taking off retail shelve!!!
  5. Do you just bring a jerry can and fill up? Any idea of the approx cost? per jerry can or by the liters? Thanks.
  6. The prices in phucket more or less the same across the board. if you are only diving for 1 day, i assume its only in phucket area and not similans? try south siam divers. I went with them a few times and they are professional and comfortable, however their boats may be a bit crowded. The cheapest i know is a dive outfit call similanprodive (the owners are thai and if u know how to bargain can bring down the prices like 10-20%). Have fun. you can pm me if you want more infor.
  7. Bro fishtalk. no worries, will invite u before tank is up to help brainstorm scaping will prepare drinks no problem. haha 1 year b4 book u liao
  8. Pardon me what is aragamilk ? you did it with no ill effects? if so hmmm good to try.
  9. How not to rem... got free drink some more.. . The wait and see diatom appoarch is indeed time tested. Now planning my future main tank la, curve front panel and quite big so need to consider flow very carefully, if not clean every week will break my back. I totally agree with you on the LR "lifted-up" method to scaping. Using it on my 3 feet BB now. very useful. all the dirty stuff all collect at one cornor(no overflow so not very effective in pushing the dirt up), siphone up every once in a while. Exactly the same reason thats why I want to make sure flow is as close to ideal during setup as possible. if not shift here shift there, wow floor get dirty, back break leh.. I know la, sure first time scape will not do, but at least decrease the number of "re-scape" time needed. No pump now la..plan on paper only. I think I need at least 1 year to sort out everything. So in the mean time, using my current tanks and containers to culture LR, and corals. Will experiment some of my "ideas" on current tank also. Will surely ask u for over for coments once tank ready and in place. Dun worry will get drink also
  10. Ya lor, not sure safe anot, thats why asking if any bro or sis tried b4. I tried cyclopezee before but they always get "stuck" on LR if blown on it leh. I even use fine sand but they tend to sink very easily. Actually thinking of Ribina(dunno how to spell) haha... Thinking of trying during tank setup stage with LR and substrate in place only. Rest of the equipment do not run together. But not sure if negative effect like bro RX said will linger around a not. Bro Fishtalk long time no see.... still remember your nice nice tank. Most of the food dyes are made from simple sugars and esters right? Those compound should be safe for marine no??
  11. Hi reefers, anyone tried using colured food coluouring to "see" the water flow in the tank during tank setup? Most of the time, after the LR are added in, there may be water restriction at some area causing dead spots. Most of the time, its really "guesstimation" of the water flow in the tank, can't really "see" the flow. Wondering if we can add some dye(fit for eating kind) in the water to test the flow? Just a thought. Sorry if this is discused before or stupid question.
  12. Hee its ok la... need it to fit the location. I like a design that blend in to the house..not one that is sticking out la. This way I can ocnvert the space at the back of the tank into a "sump room". ok la enough of me. dilute your thread liao.. more pictures from you please.
  13. shhh not so loud jking.... Still in the planning stage for the decomp of some of my current tanks and re-introduce into main tank in the future. What you have done is simliar, so using your methods as blue print lor.. BTW do you have any contacts for making curved tank? as in front panel curved kind?
  14. Wow good shot... you are really getting good with your sony DSLR. I am very new here and only heard of your "big name" from some other bros here. Now after reading your thread..... Now got step by step "101 set up a solid reef system"...
  15. can la, once i come into office I start reading until i go home.... my boss very happy with me these 4 days. So hard working.... stare at monitor whole day for 4 days
  16. Finally finish reading 164 pages!!! after about 3 -4 days... You should seriously consider putting the entire thread into a book or something. Very helpful Thank you and impressive!!!
  17. Wow 2 black tips at home? 50% water change a week? Bro Maculosus you do weights training one ah??? Judging from your tank size that is like what.....20-30 pails of SW per change?? I ask something Everybody want to ask but paiseh to ask.... :Can go your house see?" joking... from the few pics, very nice fishes u got there!!
  18. I know I bored many of you....paiseh.... So Far I still cannot ID him. anyone can help? He is healthy as far as I can tell. Fed him squid piece, live FW prawn, market prawn and krill. He has no fear at all. loves to "engage" his feeding stick. Quite happy now, made a nice home for himself in a LR which he sort of dug up by himself. He has a nice overhang in front of his hole so he can hide in a nice shade while guarding his home. PLan to add in some mushroom once water parameter is stable. So far so good. Nh4 0 nitride 0 No3 5-10ppm. I do a weekly 10-20 percent water change (drip style). top up about 1/4 cup of DI everyday. Will appr any comments and advise rendered.
  19. Last one... on his evening petrol
  20. full view. sorry this is the best i can take. he is simply too fast.
  21. Now for the little fellow A close up!!!
  22. The Tank shot with my "morning and evening lights" I switch them on from 7-8:30 am to wake up my shrimp and on them again from 6-7pm to tell him its evening. He is responding well to these "wake up and evening calls. He will start to move ard and look for food at both these times. (i feed 3 times a day, alternate days)
  23. As promised this is a whole tank shot. about 2.8 G (US)
  24. I cannot find the name of this species any where. whole body dark blood red except feelers are white. Try tommorrow bring DC to take some photos maybe the experts here can help me name. Yet will be only one in the pico tank. Will monitor the tank for water parameters for a while, if all ok , may add in some srooms and maybe marco algea. Got a 3 feet tank ready at home should this bugger grow too big.
