  1. Hey Barra,

How come your post only 9 har? I tot i remember you were around when i still have my old tank.. Haha..

Anyway, dun matter who reply the post ah. Thanks by the way.

I am still trying to configure the light setting so the number to LEDs are not firm up yet.

Mainly the cost of the lightset is a concern. Different configuration have quite a different cost. Mainly due to the number and type of CCD used.

I was reading somewhere that the main disadvantage of connecting LEDs parallel is that there is a risk to losing all the LEDs.

So a mirror was incorporated to protect the parallel circuit. But i got no idea how to do it. So i guess i have to stick to having the series for now.

It seems that the normal configuration for color is 1:1. Normally 2 circuit will be up. 1st circuit control white LED and the 2nd control blue.

With this configuration, it also gives control for dawn to dusk effect simply with timers.

However, i'm worried that the blue will be too bright at night. That why i was thinking of having a separate blue LED for night and the rest of the LED controlled by just 1 circuit.

    Noob question:

For 6 LED (SSC P4), connected in series, total power is 3.75V*6=22.5V, 700mA*6=4.2A

If using output of 24V DC 4A,

    1) What happen to the additional 24-22.5=1.5V?

    2) 4A cannot meet 4.2A requirement. So the LED will be running slightly lower than 700mA?

    3) If i run 5 LED bulb instead, it become 3.75V*5=18.75V, 700mA*5=3.5A, then what happen to the additional amperes? It will be controlled by the CCD?

I also wish to install a dimmer to control the LEDs. I only know is by PWM for now. How to install it?

Paiseh.. to ask so many questions.. but will have more...ahahahah

  2. Thanks Jameshong!

I have been reading for the past few days. *Headache*

But there are still some things that i dun understand due to the lack of electrical knowledge.

Can help me to see if the steps below is correct?

I will most probbably be mounting the LEDs to a aluminium sheet with 2 fans on top to help with the heat.

Let say i wanted to DIY a 10 LED (SSC P4) LED lightset and a 1 pc LED (Royal blue) for night light.

Each LED is about 3.75V and drives at 750mA. Then how to drive the single LED separately

In order to choose a correct DC input, then calculate power consumption 3.75*10=37.5V and 7.5A

I know I need a Constant Current driver to drive the P4 at 750~1000mA. But how many do i need?

So i need to find a DC adapter to fit 37.5V and 7.5A? Or fit the Constant Current Driver?

I also need to add in fans. These are normally at 12V. So in order not to use another DC adapter, I need to connect 2 fans in series?

With means that the total power consumption become:

    37.5 + 24 = 61.5V and hence i need to find a DC input with this rating?

  3. Can i check with the guru here how do you know which LED to buy at dealextreme.com?

    1. SSC P4 is white or blue color?

    2. The royal blue you guys are using is Cree XP-E? Or Cree XP-E also have white one?
