  1. Strange things are happening..... I have alage problem so I bought seachem PhospateGuard, put the stuff in a filter bag and use it from wednesday night. Last night, the feather dusters stopped coming out. Is this due to the PhosGuard? Thanks for any insights..
  2. Using a Prism and it is OK, producing foam. Petmart sells it at S$200. Big brother Prism pro at S$400.
  3. Yes, I used a Prism and find it OK. It does perform its job well. Yesterday, just helped another friend bought a Prism from PetMart at S$200. If you want, there is the big brother, Prism Pro that is selling at S$400. I wanted to buy the Remora b4. Got in touch with AquaC owner, Jason. Nearly close the deal but last minute backed out. 2 reasons: (1) High delivery cost (2) have to find own pump to drive it. AquaC recommends Rio pump but they are 120 AC. Despite above, the Remora and Remora Pro are the most efficient HOB skimmer around according to many reports. If I sell my Prism away, I'll probably get the remora pro.
  4. You know how much does an 18W e-ballast cost now? I am just toying with the idea of DIYing another set of light to e-ballest and PL but not sure if I want to invest in this yet. My mind keeps thinking of Metal Halide for a 1 foot tank.... sigh, sigh... decisions, decisions...
  5. Hello thinking of selling off your 18W e-ballast as well?
  6. Hi, I'm a newcomer. Real name is Peter, which stands for Rock. Since I'm alive, I just use LiveRock as my nick
  7. Hi Ange I happen to have a single 1 ft x 1 ft x 2.5 ft tank. I admit sometimes I wish for a bigger tank, like a 4 feeter because I will have more options like adding more life stocks and a more stable system. But limitations in budget, space and other reasons (read wife's objection) compel me to settle for a pico tank. And this tank has brought me a lot of joy and learning. For a start, it only takes up a small space near my dinner table where I can enjoy the view. Since it is small, every creature counts and are individually cared for. Overstocking is a sure way to destroy your system and a strict no-no. I would spent time just observing the behaviour of the creatures and also the 'action' that is going on beneath the sands. It is a very rewarding hobby. To make life easier with a small tank, I try to invest in quality equipment such as good filters, enough lights and efficient skimmer. Also, changing 30% water every month is a must. I also try to get good food for the animals so that their food comsumption needs are met. As such, I would say that small tanks are possible, but with certain limitations and more husbandry. But it also has its joy: it is easily set-up, requires small space, less investments in big equipment, less investments in filling lifestocks, and when it ever crashes, you can restart faster and your financial loss is less (emotional loss just as great) I am currently having 3 clowns, 1 bicolour dottyback and 1 dragonet, liverocks, mushrooms, fan worms and a boxer shrimp. Thinking of giving 1 percula clown away, any takers?

  10. Hi there, anyone used ESV Spray Dried Phytoplankton before? I am thinking of tagging along with Edwin Lam when he make the order from marine depot but not too sure abt this product. I dun have the tech know-how or time to culture phytoplankton and hope I can get the next best thing. Comments most welcome. More info here: http://www.marinedepot.com/a_food_esv.asp?CartId= Thanks!
  11. Another place to get e-ballast is Nature at thomson, opp. Thomson Medical Centre.
  12. I am using the Prism and happy with it. IMHO, you can never 'overskim' as it is better to skim out organics out than to leave them in. If you suspect good nutrients are also skimmed out, just add moderate amount of supplements lah.
  13. sop sop Maybe one day I will have a big setup with proper conditions for clams.. May this wonderful hobby continue to flourish! Until then, I just hope better, newer and cheaper equipment and technologies will emerge to make enjoyment more and maintenance less.
  14. Dunno whether good deal or not. check it out at: http://www.eaquanature.com/eheim.htm
  15. Hi Read that Clams actually utilise nitrates! Won't it be a good addition to any reef tank as nitrate reducer? Also, i'm looking the best bet in achieving a thriving clam for my small tank. Any recommendations? 20. Hi Many times captivated by the beauty of clams and I am tempted to get a small/tiny one for my small tank. But I want to sure of its needs and requirements. So, here are the questions: (1) What is the watt/liter, etc. light requirements? Must I need MH? Or sufficient PLL will do? I've asked a few LFS and many told me PLL will do. (2) Food requirements: What do they eat? (3) Will they survive a constant 30 degrees C? (4) Which species are the least demanding? Thanks a bunch!
  21. Hello IMHO, it is best to deal with the heavy metals (copper, iron, etc.) before introducing them into the water rather that trying to get rid of it after they are added. The simplist way is to use a water purifier for water changes and top-up.
  22. Talking abt starfish; do they add a lot of bioload to the system? I'm thinking of getting a small starfish to make the aquarium more interesting. Anyone know its needs and requirements? Cheers!
  23. Transworld is correct. It is the actual company name. More info here: JBJ Web Site Cheers!
  24. Thanks, bluebeard... I dun think he has any opponents other than those pesky crabs. Maybe round 1 he lost. Sure hope he can wallop these drab crabs and keep their pincers as trophies Can't wait for him to molt and get new gloves!!! BTW, how did u get a matched pair?
