  1. Hi, Recently started to get into LPS and currently using Seachem's Reef Calcium. I know it's not the same as adding Kalkwasser. How do you guys apply Kalkwasser? The instructions say to mix it in 4 litre of water per teaspoon...and then what? Pour the solution into the tank? Don't think so right? Appreciate the advice!
  2. I also can foresee the >4" problem as I intend to get only a 2 footer. The setup for a QT doesn't seem expensive to me now, but I won't get a 3 footer (space constraints). Anyone with comments on the fresh water dip method? Maybe not a good question to ask as no one would admit to it and get flamed. In any case, always is a good idea to have a spare tank as it can double up as a hospital / quarantine tank. I'll admit to taking a gamble before. Went to an infamous LFS with bad husbandry skills, watched many die from time to time and the ones left after 2 weeks, really strong. That's the story of my majestic angel, still healthy after a week of purchase. May not be luck again next time and will get my QT up soon!
  3. HIi, I just like to know if our members actually do quarantine their fish before putting them into a display tank. Still not sure what a quarantine tank is, besides one dedicated for new fish. How long must they stay in there? Must it be as good as the display tank in terms of aeration, filtration, good parameters? From the forum, I think many are like me, on a budget so how can have quarantine tank? Honestly, do we quarantine new fish or do we cross our fingers and drop them into the display tank? It is a very disciplined (but correct) thing to do as it is tempting to view them like a new DVD movie. I also heard that a 1-3 mins fresh water dip would kill parasites and you can just put them into the display tank after that treatment. How true is that? I want to do the right thing but may not afford to maintain another tank. Appreciate your views and opinions
  4. Hi, Recently, I have been told to get rid of my bio balls, which comprises 50% of the media I use. I was warned they are "nitrate factories". Already 2 months after my tank has been cycled, nitrates has been the most difficult to bring down. If not Bio balls, ceremic rings? Could we just list down what we use? Many thanks!
  5. My tank (4X2X2) has been running some 3 weeks (4 weeks today) and tested Ammonia (0), Nitrite (0) and Nitrate (<30mg/l) Levels to be good, with PH at 8.1. Last weekend, put in a bubble coral and 2 clowns, 2 clumps of buttons and a couple of tube works. I use a Weipro MH lights and even loaded in a Coral Life 20,000K tube in my BigBoy to supplement. Everyone is doing OK except for the buttons. Is there a reason why? Could it have been a bad shipment? Appreciate any help soon as I hope to revive the shrivelling buttons!!
  6. Pinnacle, You sure you are able to get 25.5C or even 26 from fans? The best I can get with fans alone, is 28C. The 6-fan I have is effective especially when I have got MH lights. You can feel the hot air being extracted out. Managed to get the lights for $70 at P**M*** in Serangoon North. Cheers
  7. Hi, Anyone with experience with Instant Bacteria in a bottle? I'd like to know the pros and cons of it, the main pro of course, being the shorter wait. Even with instant bacteria, is there a minimum 'sit-in' period before the ocean goes inside? Perhaps this is the trick used by the instant marine tank lfs. Appreciate any comments....
