  1. Hi, is there anyone keeping a lionfish? is it possible to train them not to eat smaller fishes? is there any other fish i can keep it with?

    Thanks

No, it is not possible to train lionfish not to eat smaller fish. It is possible to train it to take frozen food though.

If you want to keep lions with other fish, you need to make sure that the lion is smaller than the rest of the fish.

  2. i feel the same too, Kaki are very important, can cheong together and talk the same things.

I left 3 yrs ago after keep shrinking the tank size from 4 ft to Red sea Max.

Bad news, I am back again. Jus bought a 3 ft tank from Iwarna, chiller and skimmer.

No money for the rest so the start up will be dead slow till dec...

haha, so I guess this thread is now redundant? Anyway, congrats on your decision.

  3. what happen bro? WHy gave up?

Reefing is really a long process.

Everyone enjoy the setting up and buying stuff to add to the tank but will lose interest when in the maintiance stages.

I guess it's really having kakis in this hobby. When I started my first tank there was a whole gang of friends and colleagues doing the same. Even went to LFS during lunch time. And of course, with SRC support, much discussion and knowledge transpired hence keeping the passion alive. Eventually all the kakis left the marine field. Worst still when my chiller stopped working one day, forcing me to off my MH. Then the corals started to die off, then my inverts, then filefish, then my 5 yr old YT. So now left with 2 clowns. sigh...

So now contemplating if should decomm or downsize. Maybe go for nano. haha.

  4. is it reef safe ?

So far it has not disturbed my corals or inverts as yet. But I previously had 1 SGF that tried to nip my clam but was injured instead when my clam shut its mouth out of self defence.

IMHO, best to get it when it's small, and wean it to accept "issued food" rather than having to develop their own taste.

  5. Hi all

I am thinking of re-setting my sump to optimise the return flow rate. The current set up is such that water flow from main tank to sump via a straight pipe, while return pipe has turning elbows which slows down flow rate. So I am thinking to switch the 2 pipes such that the over-flow goes thru the elbow-pipings, and the return flow goes straight up into the main tank. Is there anything I should anticipate or note? Any comments or advice please. Thanks in advance.

  6. there are some diatoms of the sandbed which is slowly going off after i got an algae blenny....planning to get some sand dollars to help sift/stir my sand...Any idea how many to get? What kind of snails would be beneficial to my tank? Pls advice...thanks all the bros out there that helped me previously with my tank at other threads... Cheers!

If it's for sifting your sandbed, you can try the sand-sifting starfish. Not very difficult to keep IMO.

BTW, your tank does not look like 2x1.5x1.5. I also can't find any overflow from your pics. Are you running filtration with a skimmer?

Nice efforts for a start though. :D

  7. Erm, I really don't know the exact address, but it's along Pasir Ris Farmway 2, quite near to the T-junction leading to main road. BTW, the shop does not sell feeder shrimps, it just happens that they have some for their own consumption (I mean for their fishes).

I have also seen some people catching shrimps at the coast along Sembawang Park. You may want to try your luck there as well. :P

The farm is at Lot 35, Pasir Ris Farmway 2. Went yesterday, got only a few feeder shrimps left.

  8. feed it with dom fa guo lang jiu... :P jk...

bro volitan which LFS got sell SW feeder shrimp??

  9. hi bro,

just thought that you might wanna have a look at the picture that I took when I was shopping for my lions..

The rite side one is a Volitan and the left one is a antenatta...

From the picture, it appears to me that both are of the Pteriois sub category. :P The one on the right is a Pterois russelli, while the left is a Pterois volitan. Please refer to here for more details on Lions. It's my favourite page. :D

Here's also a picture of the feeder shrimp I mentioned. Looks too cute to be fish food IMHO.

  10. Perhaps before you even start the planning of the tank, you may want to ask yourself what attracted you into this hobby in the first place. Then look at the requirement to own it / them, and decide on the size of the tank. If your list of "loved ones" is very long, you can priortise them and decide which one suits your taste and pocket.

  11. my lion not eating the FW shrimp. hope it can find things to eat in my tank.

As you have mentioned that you just bought the lion, it is not surprising that it's not feeding yet. Lions can go for food for as long as 2 weeks. Have a little patience and try feeding again. Let the lion get accustomed to the environment first. Do note that with a lion in a tank, you need to be more selective of future livestock addition. :P

BTW, I saw some SW feeder shrimps at Pasir Ris farm. Think the boss keeps them to feed her own stock. But you can try buying some from her.
