  1. Plse add in some blue sponge at the lower portion of the tank and this will keep them alive till they start to feed on your food. I've Golden Angel which is much-much more shy and it survive on Sponge till now. I can't commend on this Angel being bully, as i've only 1 Angel. The sponge have stay alive for 3 mths + before fully being eaten up and By then the fish is already feeding on left over food at lower half of the tank. My Golden Angel is with me for 1.5 years liao and it seldom swim in the open when lights are on. Hope this helps, Max
  2. Guys, I think the shipment comes with a mixture of both the poinrt mouth & flat mouth Cleaner eels. Both looks the sameThis fish is used to feeds on parasite that attach to fish & will take bites off fish if it goes hungry. It will also eats mucos of fish, fish scale & all sort of Nudi. inlcuding parasitic nudi. From what the collector stated that if will only attack certain fish, and these are big table fishes and will still be harmless to these big fishes. We have place one purple tang with one of the eel & one in our display tank with yellow tangs & numerous clams & damsel. See how it goes. So far so good. Max
  3. Nice corals and Great photography skills I say. We do have nice corals of similar standards in local tanks as well Maybe u should ask how much they have spend on those cherries(SPS) and we should feel fortunate that we are paying at a fraction of that price. Max
  4. Shut down your CO2 for 2~4 days and your dkh, depends on LS in yr tank....will drop 1~3dkh per day. Measure on 2nd day, thirth & fourth day yr tank dkh & calcium. U are all set to restart when dkh is around 8 ~ 10 dkh. I don;t recommend anything more than 11dkh. Dkh Drops depends on CO2 in yr room & tank(type of LS & density). Restart reactor and make sure of the following: 1. start with 30 drops pf CO2 per minute or less 2. effluent should be 2 drops per mintue or less 3. chk yr calcium, i will not be surprise it is less than 360ppm. At 18dkh, it will cause ionic inbalance. 4. chk yr test kit for dkh & calcium is of reputable brands. Most brands out there is a piece of joke. Purchase on reputable brands that is proven to be effective, Don't be penny wise pound foolish. Maxima e.Aquanature LFS Website
  5. Fellow Reefers, I face the same problems as rest of the supplier faces. If u ask any collector, they will tell u it is net caught......and who knows? It is over time then can anyone determine who the genuine collectors that uses net.............price is another issue. The only way to detect cyanide caught fish is by cross examination on fish internal organs, so to us, there's no way to prove if the collector is using cyanide or not. Another problem with net caught fish is damaged fins, asked any reefer who want to pay premium for a damaged fin fish specimen? I think net collection is getting common, especially with very rare specimen that can fetch high price. Even with net caught fish, it can die of stress. Honestly, if you been to Indonesia and see how these collectors work, u sort of pity them, especially being expose to cyanide everyday.................not too sure if they live past 50? Max
  6. IMA testing of 48,000 fish in the Philippines shows that 25% of aquarium fish destined for the US and Europe, and 44% of live groupers and humphead wrasse going to Hong Kong were caught using cyanide. If u take this numbers & compare to Indonesia's trade.................I better keep my mouth shut Have u think about live groupers at our seafood restaurant...... talk about longterm impact on humans? Since cyanide poisons all reef animals, the practice of cyanide fishing is disastrous to the health of coral ecosystems. Cyanide fishing is also inefficient because less than half of the fish poisoned with cyanide survive long enough to reach pet shops, and cyanide-caught fish have a reputation for surviving poorly in home aquariums. How can you tell? Generally, fish caught with cyanide look as normal as the others. But try to look closer and observe their movement. Two signs: "Erratic looping movements or continuous, repetitive nervous circling and secondly, a suppressed appetite. This is in fact their temporary reprieve; which is why it is important to only purchase full-bellied fish which are accepting food. Often it is the cyanide caught fish's first meal that triggers their ultimate demise. Their damaged kidneys and liver are unable to perform detoxification and the fish is poisoned by it's own wastes." Another sign would be the surprisingly low price of the fish. "If a fish is being sold at a bargain price, and the store isn't running a sale, then the fish probably isn't a bargain at all. So it pays to always question the health of an unusually inexpensive specimen. In any case, I see hobbyist driving 20km to another FS that sells the same fish at a $1 cheaper not knowing he already spend $5 on petrol! If you want to talk about cyanide, let's talk about hobbyist behaviour & education first. Without buyers for net-caught fish, there's "NO" market except for cheap fish on the go Max

  10. In a Suggested "Road Race Test" by Robe, The Obvious winner is the Beckett or any Skimmer that uses a More Powerful Pressure Rated Pump. We are talking about the quality & consistency of the skimming from my first message. I do agree that the feasibility of conducting a through test and the equipment available is going to be tough to obtain. Max
  11. Skimmer Test ReefCentral Suggestions Neutral guidlines from RC & another website that did test over several days to weeks
  12. As I stated, I buy products and test it base on specifications. After all, I'm not the Rowaphos Agent and I do not see any more value both personal or financial going on to prove that Rowaphos = Contraphos -grams to grams - content to content nor do I've the fincancial means to do a Lab Report otherwise. Let's consider this commend closed and take it as my personal "faith" base on performance & specification I tested and tried. Max
  13. I ROD(Release from Duties) from this thread liao Let's put it his way, there's 2 pool of believers. one like red wine and the other like white wine. we start arguing which is better Infact, there are both good and as well as crappy stuff from either type and all drills down to Brands & Yr of Harvest. SURRENDER LIAO
  14. Hi Chris You can find the Rowaphos Paper Specification in the Container and there'e clear indication on it as well there's a report on the web on Rowaphos effectiveness and you can find faith in Contraphos. ________________________________________________________________ Chris's quote: Please trust that hobbyists can and will make clever decision. It's their money afterall. ________________________________________________________________ Chris you have a very good point , too bad the seller of "faith" just get so upset. Show the specification to clear the air that's it. Beat around the bush with personal attack................ Max
  15. Hi Robe, everyone make mistake. I make lot's of mistake as well............................. I still cannot understand why our friend get so upset with products review comments??? So next time we should not comment about anything except good things.......................like the class 95FM advert: ONLY THE GOOD STUFFs Amybe AT should add that statement into the product review guidlines. Max
  16. Cool it man............. All S'pore reefers and brothers in this hobby. AT is trying to claim to be the King who know everything, why you guys go argue over it. Max
  17. I didn't know the modern day selling and buying is base on faith? I don;t think you have a great reef base on faith? Everything we did to our reef is base on verification and proven methods. Each of us might use different method and u stated u sell base on fath? If the arguement here is between a product base on faith? I've nothing to say as faith can be anything. My 1L of silicate sand can be faith to be Rowaphos. Maybe the next customer that ask me about something, I'll say don't ask, it's faith and plse just buy? I suggest you show us the specification of the product. Max
  18. Have you add in the price for 4 Iwaki MD70? Should come closed to $2400++ just for the 2004 4 Iwaki MD70 alone. You can get it cheaper at NO-Warranty water goods from Hng-Kong, -> actually thru China Agent. Max
  19. As usual our friend trying to pull a fast one. 150W MD70 -Man I want to buy one lah................. Max
  20. You are right rating is second last and pressure pump size is last. Thanks for the reminder, Max
  21. I'm not too sure if I carry my points across with my message. I actually felt that how on earth can a single beckett of different reaction chamber using different pumps create different skimming capacity. I believe Beckett is a great product, but I do feel if you run a very detail R&D test, it will zoom down to a specific dimension which a single beckett is most efficiency. Take a look below of the sizing ___________________________________________ Aerofoamer 624 8"X8"X24" 50-250 Gal 900 gph Aerofoamer 630 8"X8"X30" 100-500 Gal 1000 gph Aerofoamer 820 10"X10"X20" 50-275 Gal 1000 gph Aerofoamer 824 10"X10"X24" 50-500 Gal 1000 gph Aerofoamer 830 10"X10"X30" 100-1000 Gal 1100 gph Aerofoamer 848 10"X10"X48" 200-2000 Gal 1500 gph ________________________________________________ I'll take on a 848 single beckett rated for 1500G any day. As for a 824 or 820 I'll think it's fair fight. Base on my Auotmotive R&D background and I believe some of the reefers are fans of tubo charge cars as well. So a fuel injector inject fuel and is controllable base on pressure. The pressure is controled by the ECU-(stands for Enginee Control Unit) with a correct mix of AIR thru a normal air intake, supercharged(Mercedes) or Turbo Air intake. The ECU will be link by sensor that alternate the Air(oxygen) and fuel injection thru a preset Ratio. For example the ratio for economy, high throttle and full Turbo throttle. Needless to say the Rato of Air to fuel is different for different mode. For expensive cars, you have choice to choose your driving style and the ECU responses. For people who do modification to their car, like using a Fuel line booster(increased pressure) to add more fuel. You get better power, but lots of back soot....as the air mix with fuel is not optimum. So the power increase is infact a louder enginee noise but minimum increase in efficiency. SO back to the main topic. If you alternate different pumps, like MD40 for this Beckett and MD100RLT for another single Beckett. It only meant that the amount of water flushing thru the Beckett using the MD is for example(rough numbers) 2100L water & 700L Air/hr. As for the Larger single Beckett using a single Beckett will be 4500L water and 1000L Air/hr. My point here is that both Beckett will perform differently, since the Water to Air mixture ratio is so different. So how can someone stated a larger Beckett perform better? Isn't there a optimum Air to Water rayio for skimming or is it a hit or miss? I think there is a lot of arguement, on how much air and water ratio, but don;t you all both end up to the point that there's definitely a ratio that's optimum? A Beckett is a Mechancial device, so is External Pump. So how can they varies the Air to water mix ratio correct, base on different sizing. A well design needle wheel will always have a mechanical design that is fix to create a right optimum water & air ratio. The size of chamber, needle wheel size and rpm. This can be measure with a Air suction meter. And this should be equal throughout all series of different sizes. As I stated Beckett is great, but the stated capacity is to save consumer the wattage shock. I felt that if you want bigger capacity, it is not the pump nor the reaction chamber, but go for a dual or triple Beckett make more sense or differences in performance. But reefer want power savings$$$. who can effort a triple Beckett? A reminder that Beckett cannot open up ot close small like the modern Fuel injection and air suction of turbo to have the right air/water mixture. If someone can design a Electronic Controller to control a variable RPM pressure pump to run a beckett and have sensors fit into the chamber, there's no way a Beckett can be use for any chamber size and capacity. I think we are being objective here and If any one have any insight that beside Deltec tested and ensure the water & air mixture is consistent, what other brand names did that? Just treat me as stupid, maybe every brands did this test? If they do................then how can they rate the Beckett the way they do without hiding something about efficiency? Anyone can throw in some TECHNICAL inputs? As I might be wrong, but I only believe in a product that has sound tehcnical design, not just piecing this and that together. Max
  22. Don't worry AT, my mouth big, heart also big today is today and tomorrow is another day A good cross fire provide the excitment in SRC and this is not a bullshit forum....THE REAL STUFF So come to SRC or miss out the good stuff Max
  23. Robe & Roidan, Make good unbiased points. Since I'm too direct in most times.......my 7years in R&D make my character lah! I'm not related to any of the Rowaphos or equivalent products as stated earlier. If I'm the Rowaphos agent(the fact is I'm not) I wouldn;t mind runing a test against all the products out there with Phosphate Solution and throw in a Merc Test kit. No point for me to do that as I'm not the agent. I just want to make sure everyone understand that I don't condemn on products that has industrial proof and certifications. I'll get sue for it. Other than that, any white bottle that stated this and that won't buy me off. But I want AT to understand that the tabulation is this Contraphos 1L =$98 Rowaohos(AT stated the $) = $148 (I do not know the local price as I order my Rowaphos in qties from overseas) No matter if Contraphos add a 10~20% enahncer that is not Rowahos, it is still much cheaper than Rowa This is a very objective statement. Why is he upset...........come on man. Your product still damn cheap I just want to close this case and as advse by my friend ->"Max, why you so stupid, you know ok liao why share and get hit" Max
  24. Robe, great suggestion! I take that challenge..................I'm infact interest to use my AP1000X against the double Beckett at Iwarna.( A Aerofoamer 872 series, rated upto 5000G or 20K Litres)-> setup by AT I'll have to use 2 units of AP1006 rated for 8000L so = to 2x8000L = 16K Litres Pump power to pump power (wattage) consumption Skimmer sizing match - Beckett to use Reef Concept Sizing Match -questions on how to measure? Use DI water + add nitrate solution of 200mg + 10 cubes of micron size food Skimmers perfromance within 48 hrs or 24 hrs This is going to be interesting. Max
  25. Rodian you are right on! I CANNOT THINK WHY SOMEONE is so upset, talk about woman being petty............boy what an eye opener Max
