  1. the reason why i did'nt skim is because, with such little water volume, the water column will be stripped quickly of the already little planktonic food plus trace elements. Water quality is maintianed only true water changes, which is quick and easy since I only need to change little for a small tank. There used to be a mechanical filtration compartment at the back which i stripped to make more space for the tank, also i noticed each time I clean the filter spnge, lots of pods and critters are stuck there, i want em to circulate in the tank freely hence i removed all filter media. My PL light casing can accomodate 2 PL tubes, I used one 18W Osram Daylight plus 1 11W atinic blue.
  2. crocea clam that is the tank's 1st inhabitant
  3. no motivation to add in anymore stuffs, skimmerless, not even mech filtration just circulation.
  4. Probably the ugliest here since i did'nt bother to stock up anymore
  5. How'bout your skimmer? is it workin well and efficiently? Cuz yellowing of water could also mean high D.O.M (dissolved organic matter).
  6. try dendronepthya a.k.a soft tree coral. these can be found in deep dim light waters.
  7. at the end of the day, "Do what you love, and the money will come"
  8. Yeah... thats true... in order to satisfy the demands of exporters like the USA, legal or illegal harvesters from indon go out to the sea daily to remove corals from the indo pacific waters. whether we like it or not, we are part of this anyway, and i don't believe there is alot of aquacultured stuffs right, indonesia simply does'nt have the capacity to do it large scale, perhaps small scale.
  9. the ecosystem there is slowly turning out of whack by all the busy human activities. There might still be some fishing activities there cuz i saw a siene net entangled to acro colonies last year. And i was wondering if they did anything to the mountain springs somewhere uphill. cuz these springs actually flow out to the sea to serve to balance salinity and stuffs. They either don't seem to be flowing anymore or looks kinda polluted.
  10. Getting a cleaner shrimp could help, and also feed regularly leafy greens like romaine lettuce, ain't sure if this is true but my father reported that it seemed to have boosted my tang's immune system.
  11. a stunning biotope that you have created Desong. but i've always wondered about this question, is skimming that unnatural since it happens in nature too? i myself have seen foamy mucks being washed ashore by pounding wave actions
  12. True, but how do i wean him into accepting dead stuffs when he stubbornly only accepts freshwater live sacrifices? hehe . is there any tried and true method of weaning anybody can share? I'm scared to dangle everything in front of him too auberon, he will erect his spines when stuffs go near.
  13. Thanks for the helpful replies people so cold storage will have it. AT: I'm still in the process of saving up for a Tunze stream
  14. Hi i'm lookin for a turkey baster or anythin like that in Singapore, i can't find in M'sia. I wonder if they sell anything like that here? I just want something that can dislodge detritus from rocks at any angle and don't feel like using a power head. Where can i find it in Sg? Thanks
  15. Hi, I read somewhere that feeding volitans with nothing but freshwater fishes may cause them to contract defeciency dieseases over time, is that true? has anybody here experienced that? And also how do i actually wean them into accepting brince shrimp cubes and pieces of fresh shrimps? I really know nuts about the art of weaning. Thanks a bunch.
  16. I realise that there is an increasing number of narrow minded people who treat this forum as a place of passing judgements on others, instead of just learning and getting info here about reefing. whatever were they thinking?
  17. Oh cool, that means my DSB in sump is functioning healthily.
  18. If you could add more sand in your main display tank to create a DSB there, plus this sump DSB workin together, your nitrate processing capability will be doubled. Seed it with life sand or live rock to have a population of planktons as true healthy DSBs comes with them.
  19. My plan for my next refugium would be a habitat biotope, i'm gonna use em all, Live deep fine sand bed, seagrass patch, mangroves and some macroalgae complete with all the detrivores
  20. thats good did you acclimate your mangroves or just dump them straight in the water? Did they significantly reduce nitrates in your tank?
