  1. Hi Igloo, Shipping from US can be ex. Infact, u can get them locally. you can purchase the above title from kino & julian sprung ones from Keong Seong @ havelock road. Cheers! Wei
  2. With 2.5" of no.0 is enough. Breakdwn of NO3 will take place.
  3. Hi aStRoBo|, I use the sand for filtration. 2.5 to 3" depth & working very well. I also have a feeding station where I place the frozen mysis. The seahorse will just go there for their meals. I dun get uneaten food on sand, rocks or trap in some dead spot. Wei
  4. Hi aStRoBo|, skimmer is not a must. I am running my tank without a skimmer & so far so good. U can go without sand. Some like to add sand for the look, or filtration reason. click on below My Seahorse Tank, can see my tank. Dun intend to add skimmer in the future too. Wei
  5. nice macro. U got it from WC? Wei
  6. If u have DSB in main tank to bring dwn NO3, why would you still need to grow the marco? No link, I think its from an article in FAMA.
  7. I notice many had do it too. But end of the day, issit that useful? Has one actually research on it to prove its usefulness if a refugium is used but so small?? Checkout their refugium, do u see alots of bubble within that shows that the DSB in refugium is working? U can keep it to grow macro for food for yr tang, but as part of the filtration, I dun think its of much help. Even if there are pods, once it reach the return pump, you won't get anything alive from the output.
  8. If shops are all bringing CITES hard coral, expect a price increase of 2-3 times of what you paid for previously. Cheers!
  9. Hi alan, by adding 1ft of refugium in sump makes no different to yr filtration. It would just be added work. It is also recommended u run a refugium separate from tank. So u can shutoff the refugium from sump if macro aglae crash in it. For a refugium to contribute to yr filtration, it should be at least 75% of yr main tank size. This is extracted from one of Bob Goeman article. Cheers! Wei
  10. If you really want the fish, u can go japan. US$6000 a piece. Wei
  11. Hi D-I-D, Have u ever consider a denitrator? It will be a better choice for u. With only the sandbed at the side of yr tank, it is not sufficient to breakdwn the NO2. Not worth the effort to add sand in my opinion. Wei
  12. Hi damsel-in-distress, can you post a pic of your system or even describe the bioload of yr tank, etc. Just to double check with u & make things clear. The filtration you are using is the Trickle filter/Wet-dry. It is your pillar for yr system filtration. Berlin system is a different method when u are use liverock wif a powerful skimmer as yr main filtration only. Without establishing a functioning DSB, removing yr bioballs will result in tank crash. Cos you will have no/min bacteria to breakdwn your NH4, NO2 to NO3. Ammonia & nitrite is alot more toxic then nitrate, a small amt can kill the livestock in tank. Thats why we have cycling period for the bacteria to establish to number enough to break them dwn. By removing yr bioballs now, u are doing the direct opposite. What you can do is slowly increase the thickness of yr sandbed to 3-4" using no.0/1. Let it seed & establish. Once done, slowly remove yr bioballs at 10-20% wkly. This way, u will not stress or risk crashing yr system. Wei
  13. The company had already gone busted! Last time, it is always actively advertising in THE AQUARIUM FISH MAG. If anyone wants to diy, do a search I RC. Funny pple now then notice this product cos its ard for yrs. If not, I think they won't have to close shop due to poor sales.
  14. Looking for the above for my friend. Any offer pls pm me. Thanks. Wei
  15. Osram do not produce blue tube under its brand. But u can only get Narva Blue Plus for 2ft. No one had tried to overdrive a 24W T5 except those using the Icecap on 54W tubes. Why don't u try it out using a 39W eballast on the 24W tube & see the result. I believe a lot of guys here would like to know the result too! Wei
  16. Hi sgbaby, comparing T5HO & PL without reflector, PL give out more output. However, due to the slim design of the T5 tube, by using a good reflector, it is able to give out abt double the output. ex, 4050 x 2 = 8100 lumens. Another reason for using T5 is because one is able to squeeze in more tubes of T5 than PL...means more watts within a given space. Lastly, its the heat issue. T5 give out less heat & more power efficient. No one has tested the PL with a reflector designed for it. So, I'm not sure if it will give out more intensity. Cheers! Wei
  17. Bristleworm. And thank AT if u intend to give this as the prize for the winner. I dun need it. Wei
  18. Hi Weileong, If u can have 20"-22" of water height, it will be very nice. U can consider making the tank higher so to have a thicker sandbed. U can go for 2.5-3" sandbed using no.0 sand. It will work as well. Besides, if yr filtration of yr reeftank is able to handle the load, I dun see why u need such a DSB. Certain pipefish cannot have 2 male in one tank. So choice yr pipes carefully. I got a pair of blue strip, u can only have 1 male in tank. For goby, get those peaceful ones. For the lighting, I would suggest u go for more light. 4 x 36 or 4 x 24W t5ho. Add zoanthids, mushroom & some soft coral for aquascaping. They will appreciate the lighting. U can take a look at my tank by clicking on the link. Cheers! Wei
  19. Hi Clownfish, where u find the yube? I have been looking for the osram white. Wei
  20. Hi porc, you might be one of the few exception that is not going to patronize the shops/farms as they bring in illegal stuff. I have seen alot of pple saying but do the opposite. Is everyone going to buy only the $18/kg fiji rocks from CF cos they got CITIES? I dun think so. Pple will still go for the cheap indonesia rocks although they know clearly it is smuggled in. The increase in demand in the hard corals/LR encourage them to take the risk to bring it in. For yr info, Indonesia had placed an embargo on us for years. They will not be issuing CITIES to Singapore importer. That means one should not even buy any hard corals/clams that is from indonesia if he is really a hardcore responsible reefer. Responsible reefers can be other meaning like good husbandry of yr tank and inhabitants. Avoid impulsive buy if u dun know what LS u buying/ dunno how to keep them. Not flushing Nemo & friends, etc. I can dare to say that 99% of all reefers here have bought non-cities LS. The other 1% i can think of is they keep soft corals & use those $18per kg fiji rocks for their tank only. The first thing to improve is we, reefers. We can insist on CITIES LS. Sure the shops/farms will listen. But be prepared to pay too cos corals with the CITIES isn't going to be cheap. I have seen a sad life example. The shop brought in a shipment of hard corals with CITIES. But they need to sell it at 50-60 due to the high cost. They are beautiful. But how many is willing to pay. He sold less than 15 pieces out of the many he brought in. Most rather go R*****, Txx, etc. Cheap, buy. End of the day, the poor shop owner had to clear them at a lost. my 2 cent worth Wei
  21. I can get them at fifty plus. Wei
