  1. Hi folks, need your 'CSI' skills here to solve the case of duo shrimp murder!! Just bought a pair of cleaner shrimp last Sat.. took my time to introduce them into my tank so as not to shock them... during the first 2 days... they look fine... and eating well... on the 3rd day, I got home in the evening only to find the shell of 1 shrimp at the base of tank near the sand star... I thought the sand star attacked and ate my shrimp so I flipped the sand star over... but did not see any shrimp... the remaining shrimp not like its usual self - perched upside down from the LR but stay on top of the highest LR. searching high and low I could not find the corpse of the 1st shrimp... on the 4th day, the other shrimp also goes missing... this time, I did not even see its shell. The mystery is WHO attack and ate my cleaner shrimps?!?!? The other tank mates are 2 common clown fish 1 algae blenny 1 blue devil 3 turbo snails 2 sand stars 1 sally lightfoot crab... Who could it be?!?!? Pls help. Many thanks!
  2. Hi all, need your help and advise here... I bought a citron goby abt 1 mth ago. from day 1, I hardly ever see that goby eat anything... I fed it frozen copepods, mysis shrimps, brime shrimps, pellets. But none of the above interest it. It just take 1 bite, nimbles for a while then spits it out.. After 1 month of this, the goby has grown very very thin.... and its yellow color is fading. Can someone pls advise me what I could feed this goby with? Cyclopeeze? Pls help. Many thanks!!
  3. Yo bro XPeriment 626, dun understand why you said that it might not be worth the investment to get a chiller for a nano cube tank. I remember a fellow reefer, think his nick is marinesavvy (apologies if i made a typo) who managed to hook up his nano cube with a Resun CL280 chiller with no modification to his hood. Yes, I agree with you that the joy of this hobby is seeing live corals interacting with the fishes. Right now, I have several fishes in my tank but somehow it just feels its missing something....
  4. Has anyone ever wonder why the fridge in our kitchen is only operating at abt 140 watts and its able to keep so much food cold PLUS make ice. But the tiny chiller that we use to chill the water to 24 - 26 degrees celcius operates at 280, 450 or 650 watts?! Thats like more than double the wattage of the fridge? Is it a case of bad industrial design of chiller makers? Hmmm.....
  5. Hi oracle, totally agree with you that no rubber coral can beat seeing the real thing. but my tank temp is hovering at abt 31.5 degrees celcius I'm not using a fan cos there will be a very high evaporation rate so need to top up water each day also not using chiller cos i'm using a nano cube tank so not convenient to install chiller b'cos of the hood. dun think any coral will survive at such high temp so the next best thing wld be to get artificial ones. much rather get the real thing but boh pian...
  6. Hi all, does anyone has any experience with artificial corals? like these .... http://www.naturesimageonline.com/ do share your pictures if any... the website makes it sound and look like the real thing.. just wonder is it real enuf to bluff the clown fish? would a clown fish host a artificial anemones?? Many thanks!
  7. Hi reefers... kindly pm me if you are selling the resun CL-280 chiller. Many thanks in advance.
  8. think its a false percula clown fish... most of my earlier clown fish were just playful and timid.. this bugger is just a plain bully... really want to RED card this bugger...
  9. Hi... think i got a bully in my tank... and believe it or not the bully is Nemo..!?!? This clown fish is abt 2.5 inch ... it has been bullying my other fishes since it arrived last Sun. The other fishes include a 1.5inch clown fish, a blue devil, yellow wrasse, algae blenny and clown goby. what do you do when you have a bully fish in your tank? sell away? move to a separate tank ? any ideas how to tame this bully? heart pain seeing my yellow wrasse's tail fin being bitten into bits... pls help.. thanks!
  10. Hi folks, i picked up a fine looking orange star on Sun... placed the bag containing the orange star into my tank for over an hr to match the temp between LFS water and my tank water. after 1 hr... i added small portion of water from my tank into the bag to avoid any salinity shock..continued this for 5 rounds. after the lengthy procedure, i finally intro the orange star into my tank.. the fellow looks pretty ok in the tank... started moving abt the tank.. climbing all over the place... finally settling near my hydro flo sad to say... i found the orange star limped at the bottom of the tank against the LR. think my cleaner shrimp aldy made a meal out of the orange star... did i make a mistake somewhere? my other 2 sand stars are doing very well and i did not go thru the lengthy procedure before introducing them into the tank.. I had the impression that these orange stars are pretty hardy... so very sad to see it die on the 2nd day... any reefer can advise what i did incorrectly? many thanks!
  11. Thanks for sharing tips... Using a powerful fan is fine but will it be noisy? Plus topping up 1.5 litres of water per day is quite some work... Hmmmmm.... guess I have to go FOWLR till I get myself some cooling solution ...
  12. Hi... did consider ice probe due to its low power usage... but with a 24gallon nano cube... i think it'll be difficult for the ice probe to make a significant diff in temp... am i rite? next option is either clip on fans or chiller... hmmmmm..... i remember reading a fellow reefer who did a fantastic job of keep LPS in her tank.... just with use of fans... think the nick is little bull... maybe little bull tank placement is windy place ... so a fan is able to do the job.. I'm out of the house most part of the day so all windows are closed till 7-8pm.. so the house tend to be stuff ... this wld contribute to the high temp...
  13. Hi... finally got myself a coralife digital thermometer.. I was rather shocked when i hooked it up to my nano cube.. 31.7 degress celcius!! Measured while the lights are switch on.... Ouch!! HOT HOT HOT... i know my nano cube is a little warm... but i din know it was so hot... Is this temperature too warrm for any LPS? Hammer? Bubble? hairy mushroom...? pls advise... thanks!
  14. Hi all, i see many reefers using chaetos to reduce excess nutrients in their tanks. How do i go abt keeping chaetos in my tank? Understand that they can grow pretty quickly so have to trim often. But whats the diff between chaetos and Caulerpa? Caulerpa need to be under light 24/7 .... wat abt chaetos? can i keep a batch of chaetos within a small breeding tank within my tank? my lights are only switched on from 5pm to 10pm... too short timing for chaetos? Pls advise. Thanks!!!
  15. Hi... I've been searching for either orange or blue star.. preferably not too big since I'm keeping a nano cube tank. If any fellow reefers know a LFS with stock of this starfish, kindly let me know.. Many thanks in advance...
  16. Hi Larry... I have the same thots abt the free chiller.. I got a freshwater fish tank in my office.. and the air-con is set at 20degrees. So the water in the tank is very cold. So far the tetras and goldfish are happy with the temp.. If only I could set up my marine tank in office... then FREE chiller.. Not sure abt the chiller not working or working 24hrs... I'm still comtemplating abt getting a chiller for my home marine tank hence I started this topic to get advise and suggestions from Snr reefers.. Other alternative is to diy a chiller... either using those mini fridge or diy from a thermoelectric chiller.. still collecting ideas and ideas from various forums.
  17. Hi Larry, based on the 20.52cents per kWh rating... I arrive at very similar figures as per using 4.13cents for 200 watts per hour. The website you recommended calculate it at $29.96. But like wat bro Alvin mentioned... this $$$ is for a chiller working 24hrs non-stop. With an oversized chiller or a smaller workload, the figures shld be lower than $29. Any one monitoring their electric bill can share their findings? Thanks ...
  18. Hi... been trying to do some electric bill calculation for operating a chiller. Pls correct me if I made any mistakes. Based on the Singapore Powers website, a 200watts electrical appliance costs 4.10cents per hour. So operating a 200 watts chiller each month would cost = 4.10cents X 24 hours X 30 days = 2952 cents = $29.52 Is this correct? Or is the running cost lower than this? Pls advise. Many thanks in advance.
  19. Hi baby_lucky... can share with us the address of this Yishun Fish Shop? Whats the name of the shop?? Yishun Fish Shop?! Thanks for the tip... megatron
  20. Hi all, I noticed that there is a chalky white film on the right fin of my clown fish. The fish is swimming about without the use of the right fin. Looks handicapped. Following advise from website, i did a quick 3 mins fresh water dip. The dip did remove the chalky white fin off the fin. After placing the fish back into the tank... it looks like it is regaining control of its right fin. But after 1-2 hours.... the fish seems to have difficulty swimming.. It kept sinking to the bottom of the tank... though upright.. but its starting to tilt to its side. Very sad... cos it is a very beautiful clown fish with bright orange colors. Just got it last Sat (2 jun) Any idea what is wrong with the fish? Not the first time this is happening. Last fish with similar symptoms died shortly. Water parameter seems fine... Pls advise. Many thanks!
  21. Hi bro Achilles Tang thousand of apologies for the EXTRA LARGE picture... Will keep it within 700pixels next time... Wat can i feed this yellowtail cleaner wrasse?? I'm worried cos it looks rather weak... not swimming as much as when it first join the tank... Pls advise... Many thanks in advance.. Megatron...
