Thick or thin sand bed

I personally had survey and considered very very carefully for few months. Thick sandbed is better for long run. but some gobies to do the job cleaning. If your tank is not high then go for thin sandbed.

Reef tanks can be maintained with or without a sand or gravel bottom. A bare aquarium is easy to clean , whereas detritus is difficult to remove from a tank with gravel , sand or shell hash. Tanks gravel / sand bottoms also risk developing anaerobic pockets generating hydrogen sulfide gas , lowering PH and releasing bacterial toxins into the water. The advantages of a gravel / sand bottom are increased reflective light , another medium in which to conduct both nitrification and denitrification and as a supplementary habitat to support more diversity.... :D Hope you find this useful as there are both good and bad so it's strictly up to the individual.
