Land2013
After my Rainfordi goby and follow by six line wrasse die, today take the courage to take out all LR and found this thing. Thought of mantis shrimp do it but this is more than that. Anyone know what it's? It was very big as compare to the crab.
veliferium
Bro, you've got yourself a bobbit worm! Lucky you managed to fish it out. It's a menace and nightmare of many amateur and professional reefers alike.
SRC Member Quas111 Posted November 9, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted November 9, 2013 Yep confirm Bobbit worm, as Veliferium said. Doing a hypersalinity dip before you put them in the tank would have reduced the chance of introducing one into your system
Land2013
It was errŕrr when found it. Im doing low salinity and found it. I need to change hyper salinity to be more precise?
SRC Member Quas111 Posted November 9, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted November 9, 2013 Yes hyper salinity is faster, more effective and doesn't damage the LR as much as hypo salinity(low salinity)
Kelvin81
Agreed on hyper. Same thing happened to me.

Pistol shrimp is ok, & not a pest

I read that they can be anywhere... sand, rocks, corals... As long as they can hide and ambush unsuspecting prey...
SRC Member Quas111 Posted November 9, 2013 SRC Member Share Posted November 9, 2013 That kinda sucks but it's lucky that they aren't too common to appear everywhere like bristleworms
Land2013
This is 2nd batch after hyper salinity. Likely inside LR having massive die off. Most likely to cure the LR inside container for a week before put back to tank. Lucky i put some bio home inside IOS. Maybe those reefer with missing fish one follow by another one is same situation like me. Lol.

veliferium
Damn that's a lot of worms. What's that striped thing in the center? A worm or a shrimp? Striped one is a pistol shrimp. Second batch mostly are bristleworms, they can be good or bad, depends on how you see it
Land2013
There is no turn back now. Whether good or bad, had to go to the end. Can't take a risk of any escape bobbit worm.

veliferium
It's actually fine bristles on their body getting stuck on your skin which causes irritation
