45cm Cube -Need advise on setup

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I have a 45cm cube tank (approx 89 litres) and need advise for the following setup equipment: -

1) Whether a 35cm x40cm x25cm (H) sump tank sufficient? I have length and width constraint as such I can only increase sump height.

2) Whether a "Skimz SH1" Nano Skimmer is sufficient? This is rated at "Air intake, 60l/h, for aquariums up to 200 litres"

3) Return pump, Eheim Universal 1260 or Compact 300, note that this pump will run the chiller as well as return to the main tank.

4) Pharos LED light 90W or Maxspect G2 160W, am more inclined to the Pharos led set.

The main tank will be coral intensive as such I wouldnt want to make a wrong choice on equipment.

Appreciate all advise and opinions from senior reefers.

You may find not big enough later after put your skimmer, pump exclude reactor.

2) Whether a "Skimz SH1" Nano Skimmer is sufficient? This is rated at "Air intake, 60l/h, for aquariums up to 200 litres"

Should be fine.

3) Return pump, Eheim Universal 1260 or Compact 300, note that this pump will run the chiller as well as return to the main tank.

Try Jebao. Power saving.

4) Pharos LED light 90W or Maxspect G2 160W, am more inclined to the Pharos led set.

160W is a bit high side. If you tank height is not so tall, you may try 120w.

The main tank will be coral intensive as such I wouldnt want to make a wrong choice on equipment.

(1) Get as big a sump as your cabinet allows to maximize water volume. But not too deep such that you have difficulty removing equipment for cleaning.

(3) Compact 300 is too weak. 1260(8.6" x 4.6" x 6.3") will take up too much space in your small sump. You need something compact, yet sufficiently strong(giving about 1000L/hr after deducting head loss).

Go for bigger sump as your cabinet allows, length x width.

2) Whether a "Skimz SH1" Nano Skimmer is sufficient? This is rated at "Air intake, 60l/h, for aquariums up to 200 litres"

Skimz SH1 is fine but Imho, Tunze 9004 is better.

3) Return pump, Eheim Universal 1260 or Compact 300, note that this pump will run the chiller as well as return to the main tank.

1260 too bulk and watt killer, C300 to weak. Go for H2O FL2000/3000. I am using it in my nano tank (system45)

4) Pharos LED light 90W or Maxspect G2 160W, am more inclined to the Pharos led set.

G2 is outdated, Pharos nothing special. Go for AI, if budget constraint than Razor nano.

The main tank will be coral intensive as such I wouldnt want to make a wrong choice on equipment.

Appreciate all advise and opinions from senior reefers.
