If there is some space in the skimmer that will not hinder the operation of the skimmer then u can put the biosphere there, eg at the bottom next to the pump and based on your tank size u won't need so much biosphere , I think 1 or 2 of those cube will be sufficient.

Otherwise anywhere with good water flow is a good place to put the biosphere .

For most carbon pallets gadgets or reactors it is advised that water output is be placed near a skimmer so that the bacteria can be skimmed out.

I have mine in the overflow box now ,they were in the skimmer when I started and that helped bring down nitrates in 2 weeks .

Wave Maker - Ecotech Marine MP40W

Lighting - Solarmax 4ft MH 2 x 150 watts & 2 x T5 lights

First of all you need to find out what is the cause of your NO3 and work from there. (eg. overfeeding, overstocked, faulty test kit etc)

There are a lot of ways to reduce NO3 but applying them is only a workaround but end of the day its still not solving the root cause.
