SRC Member Melvyn Tan Posted September 12, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 12, 2004 Came across an article on cyanide caught fishes. Really bothers me and upset that sometimes fishes bought died after a few days to a few weeks. Sometimes really don't mind paying more for fishes that are hand-caught or feeding very well rather than buy it cheap and it dies latter. So i will really think twice the next time when some expensive fishes brought in IN THE GUISE OF BULK and are sold cheaply......SO GUYS INSISTS ON HAND CAUGHT FISHES OR FISHES THAT ARE EATING VERY WELL !!!Problems with Cyanide Caught Fishes Quote My Beautiful ANGEL - Matsushima Nanako Equipment List for 4x2x2 Tank & 3x1.5x1.5 Sump Hagen 802 x 2, Tunze 6060, Arcadia T5 (54W x 8), Eheim 1260 (return) Eheim 1250 (Chiller), Aquabee 300 x 2 (Feed) H&S 150-F2001 (850l Skimmer), H&S A110-F2000 (400l Skimmer), H&S 110-F1000 (1000l Sulphur/Nitrate Filter), H&S 150-F2000IA (800l Calcium Reactor) Coralife 3X (UV Steriliser), I-Aquatic IF 312 (Fluidised Reactor), Kent Kalk Delivery, Resun CL650, Pinpoint ORP & PH Meters & Wireless Thermometer 4x2x2 Tank Thread

SRC Member moxa Posted September 12, 2004 SRC Member Share Posted September 12, 2004 Hi Melvyn Tan, Thanks for sharing the info with us. Hate to bought this type of fishes and sad to sees it dies. So is good for novice like us to know how to identify cyanide caught fishes. Well resonable price might be one way to avoid cyanide caught fishes but LFS might not even know 100% they are free "cyanide caught fishes " imported right? cheers, Moxa

Practice good acclimatisation and also have compatible fishes, if u have a dominant tang, and u try to add another, u may have problems..... the new fish maybe stressed to death... SRC Member Melvyn Tan Posted September 13, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 13, 2004 Yes its true...unless the fishes talk.....we won't know, but we can limit this problem by going to those lfs who has lower mortality rates due to good quarantining and also a better source. Leave that problem to the people who wants to trade in that.....Red Sea fishes eg. auberon
I had recent bought a leopard blenny. But it die after 2-3 days. Wonder if it is due to cyanide poisoning? Was not eating at all. Just sitting on the rocks and on the glass of my tank. Another concern with introducing cyanide caught fish to your tank is... is there any remnant of it in the fish so as to contaminant the tank? SRC Member Melvyn Tan Posted September 16, 2004 Author SRC Member Share Posted September 16, 2004 According to wat i understand, cynanide caught fishes got white poo... Yep (whitish stuff is the indication of cyanide caught), if it poos and eat then it can clear its system of the poison. But then again, its been poisoned.
