Add sand bed

Hi to all bro's & sis's reefers,

i'm new to this hobby, my question here is my existing 3' x 1.5' x 21"h only has a

barely 2" sand bed thickness, from what I understand, having a DSB will have a

advantage of reducing no3, is it true?

If it is true can i simply add more sand bed on my display tank, maybe total thickness up to 4" to 5".

I'm now keeping 5 small fish, 2 bubbles & couple of mushroom & my tank is now about 9 months old.

Need some advice from senior reefers here, really appriciate and thanks in advance.

the DSB will only be effective if at least 70% of the sand's surface area is exposed.

so do consider first.
