Need help on Win2000 login

Hi, any one familiar with Windows2000 can help me ?

It is my home desktop PC which never has a password for login.

however, dunno why, recently when boot up, it ask for login name and password. Error msg says the account is disabled and need to contact administrator.

Anyone can advise what to do as I never specified any user name nor password before as it is my home computer.

try username as administrator & password leave it blank.

Funny thing is this is a home desktop and no administrator nor password was ever needed. All of sudden, while booting up, it ask for password to log into Windows. Tried to re-install Win2000 OS, still cannot resolve problem.

Worst thing is when upgraded to XP, the CD drive doesn't work. Maybe not compatible.

Anyone can share their advise ? Dosen;t want to change CD-drive that support XP OS.

My guessing the Win2K is corrupted. I had encountered once b4 when I couldn't set it to login automatically suddenly.

To resolve this,

1) Find a utility to reset the administrator password or

2) u had to do a clean install & not upgrade of windows.

Note that a clean install will wipe out everything - your installed programs, document & data etc..

Not sure abt the cd-rom drive but it's costing like $20+ - 30 for a new one nowadays. How old is your PC btw?

my 2 cents.. You can use software such as wininternals to reset your administrator password. Alternatively, pull out your harddisk, connect to another PC, transfer all your data out and reinstall the OS.

I will try getting the utility software to reset the administrator's password. Worst case go get a XP-supported CD-ROM drive since XP-OS is running ok with data files still intact. CD-ROM drive should be quite cheap in SL tower.

careful.....might be the work of some hackers, do you have some form of firewall???? do you install about any other software that you come by?..... you can easily reset the password using some tools, but if your home PC is already comprimise by hackers, you might want to reformat your desktop again....

I had a case once where a server has been compremise by hackers before and they change the password and set it up as a games server.... we never did try to reformat the server as it was quite fun watching the hacker coming it and doing 'stuff' with the server....but MAN.. they are good!!! they can hide software in your machine such that if you ever patch up your system, this hidden software will pops up and re-open your machine for hacking again.....they have a number of hidden programs to re-open your machine up in a numbers of ways.... anyway, if you see that its a hacker attack, its best to reformat the entire machine....

Thanks bro, that will be last resort (probably the best resort to rid virus).

Interesting that you can see what the hackers are playing games in your server.

Will find one weekend when I am home to re-format my home desktop then.

no la...can't see them playing games.....but can see them installing the softwares into the server....we compare the disk image day to day to see what they install..... free lessons on what hackers do....
