Return Pumps

I am setting up a tank and given the recommendations, I need about 13000 l/hr flow rate.

I am thinking of getting 2 RD 6000 l/hr, for redundancy purposes, but it is definitely more economical for having a RD 12000 l/hr pump.

Seeking fellow reefers recommendations and comments.

Any will be greatly appreciated.

might want to consider the space you have and wattage (power comsumption) between 1 and 2 pumps used. I heard RD don't generate much heat, so heat should not be an issue even if you are using 2.

as for redundancy purposes... i have not heard of any RD pump failure so far before so i guess they must be very reliable..

just my 2 cents worth...

It should be a 5 or 6 feet tank for my friend. Actually I am a bit apprehensive about the power of RD. I understand they are very powerful pumps and I do not want to have a sand storm in the tank (thinking of using grade 0 sand). Having 2 pumps can give me the option of switch one off and use it for spare.

Actually I was thinking of having around 12000 l/hr circulation so that i do not need to put in tunze (can save space and more $$, and can improve the efficiency of the skimmer) Of course I will have to have more outlets at different parts of the tank in order for this to work.
