Iwaki MX100 vs RD 10m3

It maybe irrelevant, but i run a resun MD55 and a iwaki MD30, comparing the running temp between both pump, the heat from the housing of resun MD55 is still touchable while the heat from the iwaki MD30 too very hot to touch.

If i remember correctly, read somewhere in the forum saying that the iwakis are suppose to run much cooler as compare to the resun, but then i am comparing 2 different model of different brand.

Any comment ?

actually i ran a resun md55 before and it was too hot to touch whereas i went over to touch my friend's iwaki md55 and it was much cooler....

similarly, even weileong has mentioned that his mx70 ran cooler than his previous resun md55.

as for your iwaki md30, i got no personal experience with this pump...but if i am not wrong, this pump does not have a fan to cool it, probably that's why you feel that it's hotter?

Hi Roiden,

Yes you are right, the MD30 does not have a fan on it, but it somehow surprise me as its really hot during operation (estimated to be around 50ºC), and was wondering if the heat will be transfer to the water or not ?

And yes, i forgot that the resun MD55 have a fan attach to its tail end :)

fortunately the iwaki water path does not involve contact with the hottest parts of the pump....at the fan end of the body is usually the hottest and at the other end where the big bolts are.....the bolts are rather cool and the water path is actually just making contact with the black *cyclone* path in the picture below and this piece is actually kinda separated from the hot motor block instead of being one-body.

So while, there is still some heat transfer, the full heat of the pump is not transferred to the water. *phew*

this pic shows the separation between the hot motor block and the portion in contact with water....the water does not run through the hot parts of the pump.....but as you bolt all the parts together....some heat will be passed on from the *front* end (cooler end) of the motor block to this black plastic cyclone path part and that's why you still will have some heat transfer.

heatsink will not help much if you do not have air movement to carry heat off its fins.....

what i advise you to do if you want to cool your md30 is to use those AC fans (slightly bigger versions of computer DC fans) in sim lim tower and blow your md30.....

and then if you are still not happy with the cooling, then u add the heatsinks...but then it is very difficult to find curved heatsinks like the one i posted made just right for the curvature of the iwakis...

Then, remember to add heat sink compound, else it will be useless. :peace:
