Coraline Algae

Recommended Posts

4x2x2 tanks FOWLR plus a few soft corals.

Just changed my lightings 2 weeks ago to 4xT5 HO. And did a 40% water change then. Was hoping that with new lightings would promote coraline algae. However, now the rocks are turning green instead. Brown diatoms got a little on the glass. Fish & soft corals still doing well.

NH3 is 0. Din have nitrate kit. Could it be that after 40% change, nitrate is still too high for coraline?

On 2 x T5 20k plus 2 x T5 10k plus 1xFL actinic lighting for 10 hrs

1 hr for 20k and actinic only before lights on and lights off.

Is the lighting too much?

I heard blue light is good for coraline, should i just on 20k for the 10 hrs?

Thanks in advance

IMO:

One should raise the calcium topup level, if the consumption is faster than your existing supplement.

Overdose Ca may lead to problem too, unless you balance it with KH.

Ionic imbalance make your work more tough and difficult later.

Coraline grown, need few factors. The provided link probably give you some hints about them. Give it 1 month+ to observe, they won't grown overnight.

no need to be so obessed with coraline growth...

IMHO... coraline growth is just a symbol of 'old-birdness'.....

thats all... not a sign of a healthy tank....

i got tons of coraline algae.... my tank background is coralline encrusted..... but my stuff still dying....

juz focus more on water conditions and keeping yr fish happy.... and more importantly... ALIVE!!!!

not like me.... :cry2::cry::cry2:

i do agree that the LS inside are much more impt. But mine is a FOWLR tank with some softies, i guess with the rocks turning red/purple will make the tank look nicer, wouldnt it? now it is greenish, esp those near the lights btw.

i heard from reefcentral that i could use a toothbrush to brush away the green algae first and add then add CA & kalk.

Hope it works. Time to buy a toothbrush.

i would advise against that.... juz leave it.... if purple were to really come... it will grow over the greens....

i remember my LRs colour transition is from white to green to purple.....
