Brief intro abt benefits of using chaeto algae in the marine tank

- Absorb nutrients from water column for growth

- Starve nuisance algae (red/green) by fighting for these nutrients

- Stable and very fast growth, and due to cell structure, does not go asexual as easily as normal caulerpa algae.

- Provide protection and food for small copepods and other planktonic animals

I've already bought a pack of Chaeto from a fellow reefer. What about Ulva? Mind show how it looks like in a tank environment? Thinking of adding it into my main tank.

Hmm I only have the pic of it in a container. It looks wavy, much like the ocean kelp u see on TV, only its smaller and thinner...

Anyways my stock abit low for the ulva now, so if u want i can reserve a $10 bunch for u first?

Was thinking of getting some but no light yet..

Never keep algae before so need to know somethings.

Whats the requirements for these algae..

Can PL make it for my 31cm height sump?

heard also that light need to be constantly on.. 24hrs?

Why do we use "My 2 cents worth" when 1 cents are not legal tender in Singapore anymore? Shouldn't it be 5 cents worth?

Well, if u wana grow them fast, then use moderate to slightly high flow, to let the algae tumble and have less chance of detritus choking it.

If using PL lights, at least 36W to preferably 55W is best for growin these algae.

Timing wise, 24hrs may be abit overkill, i would prefer u used a reverse timing to yr main tank lights. Eg algae lights on 1/2 hr before main tank lights out, and then algae lights out 1/2 hr after main tank lights on. This shld ensure stable PH for yr tank water throughout 24hrs.

But of cos u will need a large enough amount of algae to do this!

Hope this helps?
