Lionfish tank mates

Hi all,

Can a 4" lionfish be kept in a 4 footer with other fishes like 3" maroon, 3" long nose hawk and others like tangs and angels, all above 3"?

Lionfish are generally non-greedy fish like frogfish. Thus they're eat almost any meaty food that they can find and leave the rest of the tank mate alone.

u can house the lion wif ur maroon n other fishes but beware of the venomous sting 1 touch of it can coz immediate death to ur other ls....

I believe that anything that cannot feed into the mouth of the lion fish i will not disturb them.

the spikes shouldn't affect. Lions are very docile. As long as fishes that doesn't fit into the lion's mouth, its very safe.. tried and tested.

Maroon Clown is a definite ok.

My 5" volitans ignores it.

He also ignores my four 2" Azure Damsels (believe it !) ,3" Velvet Damsel, 2" Clown Trigger ,2" Undulated Trigger, 3" Flame angel, 4" Peacock Wrasse, x" Snowflake Moray.

However sometimes he chases my 4" Picasso trigger (which ironically is the most dominant in the tank) .....

Spikes down and charges him ........

as long as the other tank mates cant fit into the mouth of the lion fish. should be ok.

Oh my volitans can definitely swallow any of my 4 azure damsels with ease.

Just the fact I gorge him on pellets and flakes all day long ....(got a timer)

He's been living with them for almost a year ...

I just got the lionfish from another reefer and it seems only interested in fresh market prawn. So far, it has been very docile and only excited when he sees prawn meat. Even henry's food he doesn't like. But he bullys my hawkfish though. Seems he doesn't like the hawk specifically cos the longnose hawk, maroon and unicorn tang seems to coexist with him peacefully.

Dead ...refused to eat dry food ...

No time to wean it so ....sigh ...

Saw 1 antennata at AM couple of days ago.

Not bad ....they had a couple of fuzzys too ....

But my advice is to wait when the season comes ...

Then you'll get plenty of choices ....

The fu manchu still eats only live food ???
