any advise...

What I know is some coral will die if use LED light due too maybe not bright enough. My friend only have soft coral so I think no need to much power light. If install those LED spotlight I not sure will it live or not. Maybe can try ^^ (U can try but dont Cry)

With the use of the correct light spectum and color tempertaure .. the color should be doing well.. moreover, LED is not new in the aquarium market with proven history epsecially in the state..

Can, after I work on my 2ft light cause now on course busy. Latest by mid Dec I will finish it ^^.

I will attach 2 LED strip like this type waterproof cost about less then $20 each.

LED_Stripsumm.jpg

and need a balast AC to DC 12V and some wire to connect it.

I have visit SIM LIM and saw some LED lamp like this

LED_LAMP.summ.jpg

Normal LED not so bright cost about $10

got one super bright cost about $30 if i not wrong is lvl 3 behind where the shop got display some LED outside for show.

All run on DC 12V white, think got Blue also.

Bro,

Those led from Sim Lim Square are mostly not bright enough to

penetrate two feet of water.

I had try a few forthe last months and all fail the minimum requirement

for an aquarium.

If you are seriously looking for led replacement for your T5HO or MH

aquarium light go to many of the online store and look for the latest high

power led from Philip or Seoul Semicon

Cheers

Bro some info,

Yes it may not be bright enough as told if your tank LS dont really need bright light can use LED. Some time LED not bright enough due to wrong control of amp. Using a AC to DC 12V ballast. LED only using 3V so you need to put res (ohm) in it to step down the voltage. If not wrong you can use 47 ohm(I think so). Type of LED you can choose those install in car system type. Those are bright enough to light ur tank but not to those coral that need high power light like MH.

Bro,

No offence.

I use to think like you until I try them out and do some measurement. You

need at least a lux meter or/and a PAR meter.

Anyway most of the high power LED is either 12 vdc or 24 vdc.

If you do not have a meter the minimum you can do compare is to run them side by side

and compare. That is LED compare side by side with whatever lite you are replacing.

Bro it ok we learn from here. ^^

I have visit SIM LIM and found this LED spot light cost $30 super bright I mean really bright and it run DC 12V.

Why not after I finish my DIY light I post here, so if I fail maybe can share with others why it cant work and maybe from there plus some comment and improvement on it maybe can work ^^

Hi reefers,

I 've got a question on MCD = millicandela regarding LED lightings for example: oceanus 4 ft lighting, it has total of 138 white leds and 12 blue leds.

Base on the specs, it's white led has 1800 MCD and blue led has 600 MCD, so it's spec is it MCD per LED?

How do u define its MCD for total amt of LEDs used?

Maybe i put it this way, if u have X no. of leds for ur lighting, each led has 6000 MCD, how do u caculate its MCD?

do i multiply MCD by no. of x?

or is it the MCD per LED?

pardon me if it's confusing.... i'll try to repharse further if its not clear...

One more question, any idea what's the water dept penetration of oceanus lighting?

many thnx ^_^

Its not easy to calculate.

Best the lite must come withlab test results.

That is how many lumen or PAR at say a certain height.

For aquarium it is best to have the reading through water of say standard 2 ft of water

If such reading is not available the last thing is they have the instrument to show you

the reading when the light is on

6.5 * 2 * 2 + 3.75 * 1.5 *1.5,(Decomn on 14/9/08)

  • 1 month later...

I bought this gadget called Wattson from www.greenkoncepts.com. Its a SG company and will deliver to your doorstep by SingPost. Now I can monitor my electricity usage in real time and chart it too !!

Found some interesting things about energy efficiency claimed by the manufacturers. Don't believe everything.

Check the Wattson out and you save on your bills !

I shaved $80 off my electricity bill because I found out that my air cons on standby were set to consume power! Contact manufacterer and fixed the problem !!

Plan to DIY on my 2ft tank but have bought a 3ft tank from a Bro, so this setup is running on a 12V LED no need step down as its brighter than normal 3V LED.

I using 3 white 1 blue LED strip, If u need brighter u may increase the number of white LED strip. Any question can just PM me :thanks:

Bro,

Can i know how long is one strip? I am planning to put inside my JBJ nano 24gal canopy which is only 13" or max 17" . By the way can u pm me the price for one strip? I am keeping mostly non photosynthetic so maybe you can advise the combo to achieve a nice blue look. Thank you.

This is definitely not the high power high flux LED.

You need a lot of this LED to light up your tank to visable level

but still cannot meet the T5HO light or MH light standard.

To compare just run your T5HO or MH side by side with the LED.

To get actual reading use a LUX or Lumen Meter.

If you are interest in PAR valve then go for you need a PAR meter
