Anyone interested in building one?

I am in the west. Thinking of doing one for my nano.

Will be good if "old birds" like Sherman/ James can guide us.

Cool. I am a nooby as well so we can learn together.

My tank will be set up only early next month. So in the meantime, I am just spending a little time reading the DIY stuff.

My tank is 1.5 ft cube. so if you do make one, your light will be 2x the length of mine. :)

Try to put up a photo of your tank FTS and hood if there is

And what is the 3 dimension of your tank?

State clearly which is the height

Welcome to the green world

Yay.. Sherman is here. My tank is a 1.5ft cube. = 1.5ft x 1.5ft x 1.5 ft

No FTS yet cause still waiting for Tunze to be delivered.

Another approx 2 weeks.

No intending to use hood. It will be an open rimless tank.

Hmm anyway to list out the parts that I will need Sherman?

How many blue, white Crees?

Which driver etc?

Can heatsink be bought at sim lim tower?

So your tank is 18 inch by 18 inch by 18 inch.

So the height is 18 inch. If you going to keep SPS then you need to have lens of 60 Deg(This is my recomendation)

You need 3 watt LEDs.You need around 20 LEDs .Ratio of 50/50 give you 14k spectrum.(white/royal blue)

You can get star LEDs or Strip LEDs(Specially design by me for DIYers convenient)

For star LEDs you need a driver for every 6 LEDs.

For strip LEDs you need a 24 DC power supply to drive all the 7 strip of LEDs.

Do you need a dimmer?

It allow you to play with the blue and white mixing as well as the intensity of the LEDs

If you need dimming then you need 2 PWM.oNE FOR each color of LEDs

If you do not need dimming then you can go for the AC input driver.

Go for good and reputable brand LEDs like Seoul SemiCon or Cree.

They have better and more constant output then some unknown brand LEDs.

I do not know if Cree had any distributor in Singapore but SSC had 3 in Singapore.

Most of the above items you can get over the internet or direct from me.

By the way I am in the West. You can drop over my place to see the ECO light

on display in my main tank

Hmm can I assume that a small degree optics (15-30) will result in a more focus light beam? Am looking at 3W leds, but my depth is 3ft which is essentially around 36inches :)

Yes but you need more LED for better coverage  .

I see!! I get it.. so 60 is recommended cos its a in between? As in... focused but yet not to a point that it requires more LEDs to rid the spotlight effect? :)

I would advice 40 degree len as your depth is 3ft Unless you are not going to SPS  .
