How to choose a return pump/powerhead?

Hi, how do you choose a return pump / powerhead from the sump back to the main tank?

I'm using a 4 ft tank.

What type would be recomended? and what are the factors involved?

also, how do you calculate the flow rate from the tank to the pump?
