Mussels for filter feeder

Recommended Posts

hi all,

my friend told me to put green mussels in my sump to filter feed my water. i am wondering if mussels are efficient enough? how fast do they clean the water?

My friend tried before, she kept a numbers of them in her sump, not easy to maintain.. it will crash your tank when they die.. just like clam.. Cheers...

Musscles need highly nutrient rich water to thrive... else they wont get enough to survive..... Typically not doing well in house aquaria with the usage of protein skimmers and other nutrient export method....

To get them to thrive you need to feed them which is counter productive... Go green... use plants/algae.. lol

"Be formless... shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot; it becomes the teapot. Water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend..." - Lei Siu Lung (Bruce Lee)
