Banded Goby
Amblygobius phalaena
Gobies may sometimes attempt jump out. Needs places to burrow. Prefer presence of substrate. Amblygobius phalaena (Valenciennes 1837), the Banded Goby. This species will benefit from large aquariums with undergravel (sand) filters as they spend much of their time sieving the substrate of the aquarium – useful for maintaining a clean and healthy filter bed. Watchman Gobies are very shy and peaceful fish and are well suited to both invert and fish only aquariums.
Maximum Size: the Amblygobius phalaena grows up to 6 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Banded Goby prefers a tank of at least 20 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Amblygobius phalaena is a omnivore and likes to eat brine & mysid shrimp and other meaty treats (a few times/day).
Level of Care: The Banded Goby is a low maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Banded Goby may act peacefully toward other fish.
Hardiness: This is a hardy fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
Range: Indo-Pacific.
Breeding: Able to breed.
