As with most hogfish, best not to group with smaller creatures. Bodianus pulchellus and Bodianus rufus, the Cuban and Spanish Hogfishes respectively we’ll mention together. Both are good looking and medium aggressive. The Cuban Hogfish is sold for more money for its more brilliant coloring and smaller ultimate size. The Spanish Hog gets to about twice that and there are some interesting melange-colored individuals of this species to look for. Hogfishes function as cleaners as young and showcase specimens in captivity. |
Maximum Size: the Bodianus pulchellus grows up to 8 inches. Minimum Tank Size: The Cuban Hogfish prefers a tank of at least 60 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim. Diet: The Bodianus pulchellus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of meaty treats. Level of Care: The Cuban Hogfish is a medium maintenance fish. Behavior: The Cuban Hogfish may act semi-aggressively toward other fish. Hardiness: This is a hardy fish. Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
