Flame Filefish
Pervagor melanocephalus
Needs plenty of places to hide and is rarely aggressive toward tankmates with the exception of it’s own genus. Filefishes are available seasonally and geographically. Don’t let their shy, delicate appearance fool you, a few make interesting, affordable aquarium specimens. Should not be kept with invertebrates in a reef setting. This specimen requires at LEAST three feedings a day of mysis shrimp, shaved raw shrimp, scallop and other finely chopped meats.
Maximum Size: the Pervagor melanocephalus grows up to 4 inches.
Minimum Tank Size: The Flame Filefish prefers a tank of at least 20 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim.
Diet: The Pervagor melanocephalus is a carnivore and likes to eat variety of foods, especially Mysis Shrimp, worms, flakes.
Level of Care: The Flame Filefish is a low maintenance fish.
Behavior: The Flame Filefish may act peacefully toward other fish.
Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F).
Range: Hawaii.
