| Holacanthus tricolor (Bloch 1795), the (Atlantic) Rock Beauty. Place yours in an established live rock tank.Full size angels should not be mixed with other full size angels, unless it is in a tank of at least 180 gallons. The Rock Beauty, is a shy and timid species that is not a good candidate to mix with other Angels, unless housed in a larger Aquarium. While the Rock Beauty is a nice looking species, it has been difficult to keep in captivity due to its dietary requirements. It has been found that while in the Juvenile stage, this species might actually feed on mucous from other fish, and eels, while the Adults feed primarily on Algae and Sponges. |
| Maximum Size: the Holacanthus tricolor grows up to 8 inches. Minimum Tank Size: The Rock Beauty Angel prefers a tank of at least 80 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim. Diet: The Holacanthus tricolor is a omnivore and likes to eat marine algae, mysid shrimp, Spirulina, SPONGES, and other meaty treats. Level of Care: The Rock Beauty Angel is a high maintenance fish. Behavior: The Rock Beauty Angel may act semi-aggressively toward other fish. Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F). Range: the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico to Georgia, Florida, and south to Brazil. |
