Can anyone give advice on what type of plants or algae i should keep for a refugium (i plan to add a few liverocks and deep sandbed miracle mud plus sand combi). I read that the main purpose of refugium is to keep phosphate level low. (What else can it do?)

Try Cheato since it does not go asexual.

True... chaeto is the safest bet. Did tons of reading about it. Safest cos wont go assexual. But u need a big size of chaeto to remove small amount of nutrients.. but its still worth it..Not too sure bout mangrove though..

Does is look like this? C.Serrulata. Would be better if you take a photo of a small 'branch' in isolation outside the tank
