Hi blueheaven,

One of the things which I don't like about what LFS sells, is that they are not telling the hatching rate of the cyst or label it. Cyst hatching rate comes in 60%,65%,70%,80%85% & 90%. This is to say that if you throw in 1gm of cyst for hatching, only 0.6gm will hatch(for 60% type). The higher the %, the more expensive it gets. Basically LFS repacks the cyst to small container from 16oz can and resell it to you at a higher profit. But do you think they will buy 90% hatch rate or 60% to sell it to you? Your guess is as good as mine. I normally go for 85% hatch rate at about $45-50 per 16oz can(abt 500gm). It can last me ages but once opened, shelve life decrease. One of my LFS is selling a can at $59 without any hatching rate label. When I ask him, he says 100%. I know that either he is ignorant or out to con me. :D

There are many different harvests of brine shrimp, and from different locations. Just like wine! ;)

You pay a premium for really good quality BS eggs. I remember paying for a bomb for 90%> hatch rate BS eggs from www.brineshrimpdirect.com. Really good stuff!

What you see at LFS is usually poorer in quality and have poor hatch rates. And the sizes are usually very big.
