Just want to share my experience with the above product.

I've had 3 skimmers in less than a year - RedSea Prizm (noisy and crap quality), Tunze (good but not quite what I was after), and finally the Biostar Flotor (needlewheel).

The Biostar is genuinely silent. Even stood next to it there is no noise. The quality is what you would expect for German products. I have had it for just over a week and it is churning out dark brown liquid. I have the air valve open to the max - I could reduce this to create a drier foam but I like what its producing. Plus, there are no air bubbles in the tank. It is rated for a tank size of up to 250 litres, even heavily stocked with SPS corals.

I bought the Biostar at AquaMart, Jalan Besar. They are the main distributor for Aqua-Medic products - the shop is well worth a visit, lots of Aqua-Medic T5 tubes :-) The owner of the store was very helpful and said that the rotating bio-wheel, which is also part of the Biostar, will NOT become a nitrate factory. Again, this is what you pay for with German products.

The cost is relatively high at $370 but it was worth every penny.

I agree with you bro.

I have previously assisted setting up and recommending the Biostar to a few of my friends with great results.

The Biostar unique design (Biowheel) made it possible for nano that don't have a IOS or a Sump to cultivate its own nitrifying bacteria.

The Biostar is also one of the smallest Needlewheel skimmer that I have come across thus far.

If I ever wanted to set-up a nano, the Biostar will be my top choice.

I have to say I'm not a big fan of 'local' products. Don't get me wrong, if they work thats great, but nothing beats R&D, quality control, and extensive testing which the German's do like no other. Just look at their cars!

Actually a couple of months back, I did something super silly.

I have previously loan 1 Biostar to a friend and after he returned to me the needlewheel got jammed. While trying to service it I broke it.

Thinking that I may have to spend lots of $$$ just to get back another needlewheel, I threw the whole Biostar away.

On the hind sight, I really regretted my silly action. I could have got it replace for this is really a piece of Good Equipment. Sigh........
