I'm placing my Rowaphos in the overflow where water runs over it but it is not submerged. Someone suggested that it should be submerged in the sump. Any comments?

My anemone got stuck under a rock last night. Only notice this morning. Remove it but didn't die. however water turn very murky. tested ammonia, nitrite 0. pH 8.2 alkalinity 4.5. It is it normal? Anemone doing well again at new position. 2 clarks clowns are hosting it.

Could anyone who use salifert ammonia test kit confirm whether when ammonia is zero the test kit will be Clear??? or Milky??? Been testing with it since start of cycling and have not seen any other colour other than milky white. Is it normal or test kit have problem???

ya boy. tank looks small after the LR is in. gues i really have to control myself when time come to stock fish. my tank is only cycling on the 2nd week.
-
quite a number of people here has succeeded in keeping a few tangs together.I think the trick is the order is you introduce them into the tank.Fishes have their own personalities too,dun be surprise if you find 1 with behaviour different from what is stated on the book. You should consult deepblue on this,he has lotsa tangs in his tank without any serious aggression problem.
i think if you have like a lot of tangs like a whole school they'll be ok though. no comments on flame angel in a reef tank? heard they are peckish on corals but again what a beautiful fish
-
looks like moorish idol seems like a scary prospect but they are such beautiful fish.
-
A maroon clown might sometimes host in some corals, this action might be detrimental to the coral.Butterflies and angels and prone to nipping at corals so they are quite a risk to have.As for moorish idol and cleaner wrasse, they have an extremely high mortality rate in captivity due to their eating habits. You might want to refrain from this two.IMO,tangs are a rather good choice in reef tanks. However,do read up before you buy any livestocks lest you regret later on.
but i thought you can't keep more than 1 tang in a tank. they fight right?
-
oh yeah and 1 cleaner wrasse definitely
-
anyway my original intention is as follows
a pair of maroon clown
1 damsel (the yellow belly kind)
1 moorish idol
1 royal gramma
1 copperband butterfly
1 flame angel
1 blue tang
1 six line wrasse
and maybe 1 orchid dottyback or long nosed butterfly
can help with compatability?
-
ok so i guess damsels are out and i gues maroon clown is also out huh? still for fishes these sizes like grammas, dottybacks and dartfish how many you reckon is optimum?
-
how will i know how to balance between corals and fish? would like to keep damsels and clownfishes as well if possible
-
my tank is 3 and half feet by 2 by 2. how many fish can i keep? am planning a reef tank.
-
Are there any other light source tat may strike your tank, eg sunlight?
yeah there's sunlight not direct though. tank near balcony
-
lights already off but the brown colour algae keep appearing on my LR. very ugly lah. but will wait until cycling is over as advised before adding snails. heard removal of phosphate and nitrate will help. what method can i use? additives??? filtration???
-
heard that turbo snails can get rid of diatom/algae. can introduce during cycling or must wait until cycling over? how many to put huh? my tank 3 1/2 ft by 2 by 2. thanks.
-
hi heckers.
actually not sure whether it is high or not. i think must test with another brand of test kit. so far only base on the salifert test kit. btw should i start testing for nitrates already?
-
Hey welcome to the club. I have the exact same problem.
-
ok so the order is correct?
-
Can introduce snail during cycling or must wait until water parameters are ok? and how many snails is enough? my tank 3 1/2 feet by 2 by 2.
-
Hi! need help to understand what order of livestock to introduce after tank cycling.
inverterbrates first??? then corals??? lastly fish?? been told this is the order. but not too sure. if inverts first what type inverts should go in first? appreciate an assistance. thanx

All,
i am facin' the same prob as scarab. i hv recently converted my 3ft wif canister filtration in2 a 3ft wif sump filtration. now in my 4th wk of cyclin'. ever since the 1st day of cyclin', i hv been testin' my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate wif Salifert test kit averagely abt 3dayz per test. i tot it suppose 2 hv a spike in the increase of ammonia in the 3rd wk but unfortunately my tests r pretty constant since day 1. till now, in my 4th wk, still the readin' haz not change much.
duno if it'z a test kit prob??? if it 'z, dun tell me all my test kits (ammonia / nitrite / nitrate) all got prob as all of them gave the same result since the day 1.
i have readings for nitrite which is going down. haven't tested for nitrate. it is ammonia test that is really puzzling me. water looks cloudy so i thot ammonia will be high but it's not.
