  6. Hey guys a few more questions... 1) Let say i purchase a full set from another reefer who already have live rocks (though not enough), sand (not sure live sand or not) and its already very stable, rocks with purple coraline algae. If i purchase and buy seawater from irwarna and set it up immediately, will the bateria in the rock and sand as well as the coraline algae die? or will it end up shortening my cycling period? i can wait 1 month cycling without touching it no problem though. 2) Should i turn on the skimmer if its during cycling period? 3) Chiller no need to be on during cycling right? since only rock and sand.. 4) Stuff like purigen or other nirate/po4 remover issit needed to be added in during cycling? Thanks!
  7. Is this the skmmer found in the red sea max 130D? how old issit?
  8. Yea thanks bro for ur info, decided not to go for canister and go for IOS/Sump instead. i currently aiming a Red sea Max 130 too! do u have any problem with the stock skimmer? Thanks bro for your info, i should be using distilled water as well.. Thanks bro for your info! yea plan to set to that temp if i get a chiller.. thanks!
  9. true enough will be staying tuned to see u set up ur 2ft tank
  10. woah.. this is a really small tank to be honest.. given all ur equipments u bought and owned, i thought you will be going for a much larger tank.
  11. I believe a overflow box will solve this problem... yea i read that best result is to clean once a week ( that will be torturing as cleaning the fx5 is not easy at all) im leaning toward sump tank now.. Bro can share where you got ur overflow box? can pm me if possible? thanks!
  12. Thanks for your reply bro, so u switched to a sump system? sump tank also uses wool to trap dirt right? so the main thing is that sump is easier to replace/clean the wool? After some reading online, it seems that the main problem of canister filter is that people tend to get too lazy to clean their filter.. that in return traps too much dirt and oxygenated water passed through the dirt and it end up producing nitrates.. am i right?
  13. i understand that majority of people go for sump tank or IOS at least and it seems like only a small number go for canister.. my question is what are the other disadvantages canister filter has other than having lesser total water volume as compared to sump? does clogging of wools and media inside a canister increase nitrate? And isn't IOS similar to canister filter just that its open-top? i understand sump and IOS can have skimmers/refugime but canister cant.. there isn't much info here in SRC so i hope someone who own before all 3 canister, sump and IOS can share why u chose either one of the system.. and people who remain by canister filters why do u not make the switch? Currently planning a 2x1.5x1.5/2ft cube tank and i have a Fluval Fx5 (2300l/hr) running on my 422(freshwater) tank. which i am thinking of using it for my future tank and it can be connected straight to a chiller, and flow back tank through the chiller.. Thanks in advance!
  14. Hey bro, wont a 1/15 hp chiller be under powered on ur 2ft cube? whats ur chiller bills? woah.. how come still need to top up even when u used chiller?
  15. Hey bro slapper thanks for replying to my thread! i've seen ur tank and its indeed one of the nicest 2ft around and yet ur equipments are so simple! i've read that canister filters always end up building lots of nitrates due to the mulm and dirt being clogged.. i have a fx5 though.. as for why im thinking of a chiller now, mainly due to the high evaporation rate caused by fan. What is ur water changing regime anyway? u WC and top up evaporated water with RO/DI water? or just treated tap water?how old is this tank too? Thanks!!!
  16. Theres a guy selling the red sea max 130 (34g) an it comes with a 1/15hp mini artica chiller.. smaller hp means chiller got to run more often and in turn higher bills right?
  17. Anyway im currently toying the idea of a chiller... i was thinking if i get a 1/10hp chiller( for 2x1.5x1.5) or a slightly more powerful one if im going for 2 ft cube and i set it to 26 - 27C and since softies and LPS dun require that cold water. i wonder how much will the electricity bill be? main concern is bills though.. anyone able to provide their bills for a 1/10hp chiller on a 30g tank set to 26 - 27c? Thanks!
  18. oh i initially thought that can light up the tank a little so the fishes/corals wont get light shocked.. yea will probably do that.. wow! seems like u got alot of lighting bro!
  19. Thanks for the info bro, personally i find bare bottom not nice.. i intend to have a thin layer of sand.
  20. Looking good bro. it seems like u have quite a deep sand bed.. issit recommended to have such a deep one for small tanks?
  21. Yea im actually looking into Eshine Aquawasher right now.. should be getting them for my lighting.. would be using Hydor aqua color moonlight to simulate dawn and dusk too. i wonder how long should the main lighting be on?
  22. Oh.. AM is aquamarin right? looks very beautiful your zoas! Anyway is it because of your lighting having more blue LED thats why ur tank turn purple?
