  1. wow...u got 3 huh ....what are the 3...Pinpt, milwaukee and Macro?
  2. one more thing to add....i am super super newbie....hahaha...hence my opinion can be ignored and corrected by senior reefer....hehe....hopeing to learn more also. : )
  3. IMO, the answer should be yes if you are not adding any LS. If the water has live rock without LS, turning on the skimmer will not have nothing much to skim off the water. For the FR, it depends on what you intend to remove or reduce. If for PO, if you let the water run and do not introduce light, algae unlikely to grow. For FR, you can decide to put phos remover or carbon or both or just have phos in your FR and place carbon and bio home or ball in your sump. Nevertheless, it will be good to turn on. Think there is no hard and fast rules. Some ppl will put rocks to reduce the NO in your tank, some will have refugium, mangrove, etc. The water also plays a part - RO/DI or NSW or just tap water which left for weeks and has all the remover solutions added to the water. Hope to hear from senior reefer to share their experience and professional advice. : )
  4. hmmm....it look like straw but red in colour....usually sell with them attached to the rock. For me, i will rinse it either with tap or saltwater. For the rock, i will dip it for few minutes in tap water to kill off parasite. Then i just dump it into my tank. Think should be able to last for weeks. For the seaweed, LFS does sell the clip or hanger but comes with a price. : )
  5. Hahaha....yaya....love sea weed soup....maybe i am a tang previously...hehe.... For red bamboo, pasir ris farm will have. LFSs, must check as i believe all shops will carry.
  6. oppss... for my typo....haha...nimble vs nibble...hehe... u can try but when u buy sea weed, must choose those plain and raw type....without any other ingredients....just try lor.... my mum always complain i treat my fishes better than her....wahahaha
  7. Hi Bro, maybe you can try getting live brine/mysis, use prawn meat mixed with cylopeeze, or get Henry's goumet to try out. One of the reason to quarantine new fishes before releasing into main tank is to understand and train them to take whatever food given. If it is released into the main tank, the new fish will have to pick and learn from other senior fishes. Maybe your fish is still aclimatising, hence no eating Just try giving variety food and monitor. Maybe you can buy some red bamboo and house them in the tank. They might nimble abit to ease their hunger. All the best. : )
  8. Dear all, Thanks for your replies and advices. Ya, looking for orp for quite sometime. Got offers but not very comfortable with either price or the equipment. Need an orp to monitor my water. Just an additional measure as i am using a ozoniser which unlikely to hit above 400 mv. Hence, hoping to look for second hand. Since no luck, had ordered one but later cancelled it because Bro gary is decomming his tank and i am getting from him. For the benefit of reefers looking for orp, i did a comparison between Milwaukee and Pinpoint. This is more on the design aspect. Personally pinpoint is neater with just one main power source. Milwaukee needs two power sources. Prize wise, $100 different For Milwaukee, you need to buy adapter for the power control socket. Best is to get the shop to show you and you will understand. Another thing to note, is the range that the controller can monitor. Learned from weapon_master. Some can measure and control negative Mv. Thanks again. : )
  9. Think better than power blue.....hehe... my friend got one and is the terror in his tank....hehe. If you got bigger tangs, think should be fine. : )
  10. Dear Senior Reefers, Tried searching but cant seems to find one review(maybe no good in searching). Your valuable review on the product mentioned will be much appreciated. Also welcome info for good lobang to buy brand new. Thanks.
  11. from the book...if you want to confirm when can add LS, for new setup, your NO will go up and after the cycling process completed...the NO reading should be 0...... be patience which i did not follow and suffer...hehe. All the best.
  12. err...if water after running thr chiller passes thr other devices which emit heat.. water will be heat up....maybe you can monitor your tank temperature vs your chiller to ensure they are consistence. If they vary and huge lag, maybe you need to re-design the follow or seek advice from senior reefer. : )
  13. Good Day to you, This is really technical. As a layman, i will see what is the recommended flow rate for your equipment. As the pump pumps through so many devices, the strenght might be reduced. I am not good in doing computation and if you need help, you can acquire or borrow from someone a flow rate device to test. The flow rate will affect your equipment performance. For chiller, too slow, it is not efficient and too fast, it will not be effective. Similarly, for UV. Should there be a range for the flow rate, get one that meets all. If not, must get senior reefers to advice. Hope this help. Thanks.
  14. Better train up a jarga for you...lol... had given a thought to have UPSs for setup by the space for big capacity and money are simply too shocking to equip. Notwithstanding the fact to do routine battery check and replacement. For the system to run on its own, think must have those controller with dosage pump and feeder(another costing). However, once this is in place, the power to all these unit must be taken into serious consideration. Hence, everyday just praying hard nothing happens. Any good and cheap recommendation? Anyone got standby battery operated pump? My friend used that during the power interruption. Think it is good at least to supply water movement and oxygen. As for heat, maybe can use manual faning....however...all this require physical person to react...
  15. not a pro lor.....thanks to you. Now must learn those DIY skills....hehehe... so later wat time to meet at GO...think better sms and not tag along this thread.....
  16. Dear senior reefers, do correct me if i am wrong(newbie also).
  17. Hi, Welcome to this hobby. Me newbie also, hence i think i can understand how you feel. Maybe it is good to understand yourself and your budget. Pardon me for my frankness. If you know you are one that will like to try new things and the interests will die off soon, then it is good to just start small - 1 to 1.5 ft nano. This is something like "testing water"...lol. Budget is another issue for start-off. I got into this hobby when my colleague passed me a small chiller and i thought it can do wonders. Hence, i started with a normal 2 ft by 1ft by 1.5 ft freshwater tank. Thinking just need a normal light and existing overhead filter will do the job. As i study more, i need a skimmer and for each equipment, there are so many types. Slowly bought a canister filter to work with my chiller and change the PL light to those marine lighting. Hence, with the limitation of my tank side, i decided to upgrade. For your case, if you know yourself and acertain the budget, it is much more easier to plan. Local shops do setup for small nano, ranging from 500 plus to 600 plus. With the setup, you can keep coral and fishes. However, if you want to save, you will have to search around for second hand or shops to determine. As a beginner, i think it is good to buy off the shelve or entire setup from those decomm reefer. For DIY, either you are good in reading or has good friend to assist. For me, i got a friend to help. For a basic setup, u need, filter(many types - sump, canister, etc), skimmer is recommended, chiller depends as for fish-only keeping may not need and can use fan to cool the water(bear in mind water evaporation), live rock is a yes as it will help in reducing NO, sand or shell for the bed is subjective as some will like it(natural) and some not due to maintenance, lighting depending on what you keep, test kits - pH, NO3/4, KH, Cal, Mag, parameter monitoring o controller device - Salinity, pH, etc. If you are keeping fish only, they can withstand certain degree of poor water condition(provided your fishes are immuned). If you are keeping coral, water quality is very important and you need to get supplement, etc. For your fishes, invert. and coral, you need to study they characteristic and compatibility before buying. Please note there is the so called new tank sick sydrome, hence u need to let your tank runs for weeks to month. If you buy a setup from shop or another reefer, maybe this is not necessary. For shops, where do you stay. Check through the forum and sponsorshops....they are the few reputable sellers but utlimately u will have to decide u go for service, budget or convenience.... you can always post a question and think the reefers here will try to help.... one thing for sure....it is not easy....lol....has been reading alot but the more i read....the more i get blur...wahaha...moreover.....books and true experience in life do make a difference....hence sometimes it is good to get advice from senior reefer... welcome on board. Let's learn and share ....: ) me stay in sengkang. : )
