  1. Hi guyd. I just added one piece of small prawn. Currently the white residue have turn brown. Do u guys reccomend a water change now??

Hey bro, I want to tell you that you are on the right track, let the prawn fully decay and let your water clear up on its own. Try not to turn on the lights as the spike in nutrients will spark off an algal bloom if the lights are on. Right now just leave your return pump running to get the water flowing. It looks like your tank is at its peak of the cycle, it should clear up from here on out.

Btw, from the picture it looks like you have some corals, but they look artificial, or am I seeing things?

  2. Succession to keeping prata alive is choosing your condiments: curry or sugar? Hehe

Low - moderate flow medium lights. Same as other meaty corals like acans and blastos

LOL with a cup of teh tarik

  3. Dose sugar! 1.8Teaspn / 25gallon. Every 2 days. I dose 1 teaspn everyday for 2days , nitrate went from 40 to 20 in 2days. Initially it was 80 , it dropped to 40 with biopellets in 1 week. Water will be cloudy! No lifestock lost so far. All is ok. Take a look about it in RC. Its working for me. Its the same as dosing vodka or vinegar etc~

My tank is 140gallon btw lol xD

Sudden drop of parametwrs like nitrate is not good for corals. But i cant wait so no choice. Everything is happy

I think for bigger tank its okay to follow the teaspoon method, smaller tank abit difficult to measure 1.8 teaspoons. Imo, measuring spoon is the easiest.

  4. base on discussion i remember many years back, the evaporation rate is high.

as for other areas, aircon spoils faster.

cant remember the reason why though, try searching it.

Just wondering, why would the water evaporate faster? In my experience use fan vs aircon chill, the evap rate a lot less for air condition. But vs chiller is a different story.

  5. Well, my tank is fairly new, I only have a polyp of a mushroom to test. So not much to test with yet.

Before the decomm however, the corals seemed to colour up better in the colder temp. Ideally I would like it to remain at 25, it was the temp where I had most success in terms of growth and colouration.

  6. Since u already did a control test with a fresh batch of water, I dont think ur test kit is the issue although getting a more sensitive one like salifert would not hurt at all, except making a small hole in your pocket.

That said, I dont think its ur LR either. If it was, the nitrate would show earlier.

Qtn 1 : how long did u cycle?

Qtn 2 : did u test for ammonia n nitrite when u tested for no3 which turned out to be negligible?

Imo, whenu tested for no3, ur nh4 and no2 was in its spiking phase.

My 2 cents is that ur tank is just completing its cycle with the nitrate spike. Some cycle take almost no time, some abit longer than usual. So just wait it out abit more, no need waste money to keep changing water. Ur tank ill stabilise soon enough.

Seems like you were right bro, after a few weeks, my no3 is now 0ppm ^^

  7. Hi there, I would agree with you that that might be the cause. Regarding whether I did test for ammonia and nitrite, yes I did ,also for n03 at the end of the cycle. All tested 0 before I added life stock. I have a hunch my rocks are the ones giving me the problems.
