  1. Hi guys. I'm selling my mandarin thats trained to eat frozen bloodworms, because its a pain in the a** to spotfeed him. This one I'm selling for $20, cos 1. I've trained it to go inside a bottle to eat 2. Its bigger then the last one I sold, since I feed it daily Collection area @ my house at joo chiat area. For my convenience and so you can see it eating for yourself. Interested please PM me. Thanks
  2. Hi guys, due to compatibility issues, I have a 3.5 inch dwarf fuzzy lion to give away. Its completely red, and eats frozen squid and market prawns off a feeding stick. Collection in katong/eunos/paya lebar area. Please PM me if interested. Thanks
  3. As I recieved a few queries as to how I trained 2 mandarins to eat frozen bloodworms, I thought I'd share my exp here. Hopefully this will reduce the number of mandarins starving to death in tanks with insufficient pods. The original idea was not mine, I got the gist of it from another forum. 1. Buy the biggest, healthiest mandarin you can find. Ensure its not caught using cynanide. I got mine from aquamarin (trap caught). 2. Get a large net/basket to isolate your mandarin. I used a net. 3. Give the mandarin 2-3 days to get comfortable in your tank. 4. Buy tubifex or bloodworms from freshwater LFS. 5. Feed your mandarin the liveliest worms. With any luck, your mandarin will be hungry and attracted to the movement of the worms. 6. Feed twice daily, with live worms, for 2-3 days. 7. On third day, mix in frozen blood worm, gradually increasing live to dead worm ratio till all you're feeding is enriched frozen blood worms. 8. Voila! Once your mandarin recognizes the worms as food, should have no problem in getting him/her to eat. 9. For those bros with lively tank mates which might compete with mandarin for food, google 'melev reef mandarin diner'. I'm feeding my mandarin using his idea And thats all folks
  4. Google 'golden ration of landscaping'. I followed the ratio and my rockscape has never looked better
  5. Bump, and collection area at Joo Chiat. PM me for exact address. Thanks
  6. Bought 2 male mandarins recently with the intention of trying to train at least 1 to eat frozen. Didnt really have high hopes, as you guys should know, most mandarins never learn to eat frozen. So imagine my surprise when both mandarins started eating frozen blood worms and brine shrimp. But as both are male, I cant release both into my tank. So am letting go of 1 for the price I bought it for $10, self collect for my convenience and so you can confirm he is eating frozen. TIA
  7. Hi guys, right now, in my 75 gallon, I have 1 Snowflake eel 1 fuzzy dwarf lion 1 azure damsel 1 tomato clown 1 algae blenny 1 mandarin (still training to eat frozen, so dont know it it will survive long term) I plan to add 1 coral beauty and 4 blue damsels in the near future. Will I be overstocked? TIA for any feedback

  11. For a 4 ft tank. I already have a hood that can accomadate 2 bulbs. For now its a FOWLR tank, possibly upgrading to mushrooms later. Would like a good growth of coralline as well. What light combi would be good?
  12. The lower the better mah...Dont mind topping up water about twice a day. I'm using sunsun wavemaker X 3 (intro by iwarna aunty) from china, octopus skimmer and italian pump (intro by aquamarin), so dont think can reduce wattage liao

  19. Hi guys, just want to check, what is the max acceptable temperature for FOWLR tanks? With the recent heat wave and my submersible pump etc etc, my tank temperature has been hitting 31 C. At that temperature, can i keep any shrimps? Thanks
  20. After extensive reading and gathering feedback, I've come up with a drawn plan for my "fish and invertebrate with live rock only" tank. Its kinda different from the norm, since 1. My overflow compartment does not have holes drilled in 2. I plan to reuse my canister filter despite incorporating a sump Without further ado, here are the plans Question. 1.Where is the best place to put the skimmer, UV and activated carbon? 2. What sort of additional biomedia would be good, and which compartment would be the best position to place it? 3. My canister filter is currently for FW. What should I place in it for a SW tank? I would greatly appreciated other comments and critique on how to improve this setup. Thanks a million
  21. Hi guys. First time poster and general marine newbie here, so please be patient with my many questions haha. I was actually introduced to marine tanks 6 yrs ago during my NSF days by my section IC, who told me, amongst other things, that 1. Undergravel filters work so great, I never have to clean my filters or do water changes 2. Bioballs work great in a marine tank So you can imagine how the tank eventually turned out. I converted the tank to FW later, but now I want to give marine a go again, so here I am. I'm planning to do a Fish only tank, with only around 10 small fishes and a cleanup crew. My tank is around 70g, including a overflow compartment that adds the total volume to about 75-80g 1. Should I go for DSB? In my experience with the undergravel filter, I notice that when the sand bed is very thick, black spots occur very frequently. So I'm planning to just go BB, with a very thin layer of sand (<0.5cm) to just give it a more natural appearance. WIll be easier to clean the waste as well. What do you guys think? 2. Live rock. I stay in katong area, where there are 2 marine shops, so no problem in getting a supply. Is there any treatment needed before adding the rocks? Also, how many kg should i get, since they are probably going to be the main source of bio-filtration? 3. Skimmer. What would be a good brand? Price not an issue, since from reading around they are an important part of keeping the tank healthy. Same applies for UV. Would appreciate a good recommandation. 4. Filtration. Currently using a canister that sucks water from overflow and expels into main tank. Before that, the water flows over cotton pads and across coral chips. From reading, it seems that too much filter media will actually trap waste and become a nitrate producer. So should I remove the media from the canister, and just use it as a mini sump, and wash the cotton pads daily? 5. I should get enough powerheads to make sure all parts of my tank got current. right? 6. For tap water here, must we do RO/DI, or just anti-chloramine is enough? 7. Lastly for now, how long should I wait after mixing the salt water to add live rock, which will then kick start the nitrate cycle? Thanks for any help bros
