Don't forget that during water change, u will increase the KH & Ca if the reef salt contains higher value of KH & Ca than what u have in your tank before doing water changes. Too much will cause a drastic raise in the KH & cause some instability which some sensitive SPS or Corals will have a negative reaction to. 10% weekly should be sufficient, even to replenish the trace elements we cannot measure, unless we re talking about emergency here, where is the amount involved will be much higher During emergency, it will be better to choose losing some compared to whole tank wiped out. Also during water changes, beneficial bacterias will be suck out & replenish with reef salt water which does not contain benefical bacterias, however, this should not be too much of a concern because we have enough of those in lives rocks or if u re using new sea water (NSW). What's more, benefical bacterias can be easily replenish by commercial products or wait for them to reproduce.

U should read up more on camel shrimps before u buy.

The difference between baking soda & those commercial 2 parts, baking soda u must use at least food grade or better. Using baking soda is cheaper compared to getting a commercial 2 parts to increase & maintain KH but, dosing will be more compared to commercial products because we are using hands or pumps to get baking soda to dissolve in DI water which cannot be compared to industrial strenghts stirrers that can get more to dissolve & as a result, more concentrate to the point of saturation, dosage lesser. And, u should use an additive to raise your KH, this one u are using now, only increases your pH, not KH. U can try those powder forms which are cheaper compared to liquid & once u get your preferred KH, maintain using liquid form for KH or continue the powder form. And why i say powder form cheaper is because every cents u paid, is for the powders that work & not for water that comes in liquid forms.

Rem to slowly raise your KH.

ATI Sunpower also does not lose out.

Stable salinity is the best Sg level. Anything between 1.023 to 1.026.

Change once dirty. I use those $3.50 one big packet type which requires to be cut into correct size. I throw away. I don't see the need to wash.

Btw, i feel that ATI sunpower is powerful enough. I had a few deep water SPS up the lorry because of this fixture. I had to place them on the sandbed under some shade for them to survive. The up lorry ones, 3 red dragons frags & 1 devil's whip frags. Lucky, i got replacements for them & the latest ones survive.

ATI T5 & LED hyrid cost a bomb. If I have the $$$, I think i will go Orphek Atlantik V2 LED. At least they are going the way of PUR.

T5. U will get the colors of the SPS that u yourself & most reefers will agreed that is it the nicest. No doubt that u have to change tubes, but then what is the point of keeping SPS if u do not get the colors using other lightings. It is a small price (changing tubes) to pay for bringing out the colors of SPS. Most importantly, T5 are proven, user friendly ( u will never go wrong with the required spectrum. Internet have vast amount of infos/ recommendations on the tubes to use ). Although there are instances where LEDs users reporting success, there are also many others who are struggling with this new technologies, some even give up, dumped their LEDs one side & switched back to T5/ MH. Time & money wasted. There are some who never see true brillant colors of SPS under T5/ MH & though that is the normal colors of SPS, under LEDs. But then, LEDs technology are getting better, maybe in a few years time, it will reach there & replace T5, juz like how T5 replace T8. But LEDs are quite close but still not there now.

Take out & dip in fresh water for 3-5 mins. Alternatively u can use coralRX or any other similar products. Get yellow coris.

Hi, selling off an ATO from autoaqua. Juz bought this from one LFS yesterday, 8th of Jan 2014 & it does not work for my translucent PE sump. Selling off at $80. Bought at $120. Touch water for around 30min only when i realise it does not work for me. Take Note: The tubing has been cut into 2, one measure 75cm, the other 175cm. $80 is the lowest i can go, consider it is brand new, new selling at $120. It is already very good offer. Once u introduce an anemone, they will start to fight each other to have the right to live inside. Often, the dominant pair will win & the rest will either die from the fight or suffer. I had experience this a few times. They are better off without anemone, will not fight each other to death. There will still be occasional chasing around without anemone but not to death. I will take that chasing as if they re playing.
