I think it's because yours is barebottom... no sand for the yellow wrasse to hide.

My first yellow wrasse lasted 10 months before dying during the move from my old house to my new place. Grew damn big. sad when it went to fish heaven.

My 2nd purchase was too small so that was my only casualty.

My 3rd purchase of 2 little yellow wrasses picked by our Dear DR ANG has had no issues and surviving well past 4 months already.

SO conclusion : I think u need sand! ...

agree sand will greatly increase success rate but i think they can survive in bb tank too
