  5. This fellow eat only natural food, like copepode. Your tank must be matured enough to produce these type of food before you introduce this fish. Cheers! Chipson1
  6. I have been fighting to catch the mantis shrimp in my tank for almost 1 1/2 year, it killed many of my new and sesoned fished in my tank. I have even ordered from the States special trap to catch him, this creature is so smart that if you failed to catch him the first time, it will be 100 times harder to catch it later. advises from many expects is to catch it (them) AT ALL COST. Since you have son many babies in your tank, you must eradicat the mother even if you have to restart your whole tank in order to have a peace of mind in the future. Happy mantis shrimps harvesting!!! Chipson1
  7. I use the Beckett 1408 fountain head injector. Cheers Chipson1
  8. Hi Reef2, I am very happy to see your skimmer in action, delicious skimmate, well done on your tuning. Another reefer JS managed to reduce his NO3 from more than 100ppm to below 15 in about 1 month by running the same skimmer at 32" tall. Happy skimming;) Cheers Chipson1
  9. Hi, Nitrate is a simple yet complex problem to any new or experienced aqurist, it is part and patial of reef keeping. If your tank is new, just be patient, try to balance the bio-load, that is the input and out-put, what ever food goes in or waste produced in the tank, the filtration system should be able to remove them. If your tank is more than six months, than you will have to check the filtration system whether your syetem is adequately designed. In layman term, the reef tank should have two main areas of cultivating difference baterials for different function, aerobic and anaerobic, aearobic area is rich in Oxgyen, such as bio-balls, cotton wool, over-aged activated carbon, coral chips filtration etc. this is known as nitrat factory, cos theses areas break down amonia to nitrite and to nitrate. While the anaerobic area is very low in Oxygen, these areas produce baterial that consume NO3, areas such as LR; lower part of DSB, denitrifier etc., we need to create enough anaerobic area to eliminate NO3 in order to keep the NO3 level low. A lot of aquarists create more aerobic area but insufficient anaerobic area in their reef tanks, that casue the rise of NO3. Dr Jaubert's plenum system creates massive anaerobic area in the plenum area which has proven to be a great success in reef keeping. Using good skimmer to remove potein and nutrient in the tank will also help to keep the NO3 level low. Hope can help u to solve the promble. Cheers! Chipson1
  10. Well done, Dr. It should work! Chipson1
  11. Thanks Dersuz for your compliment. Try to get a little morae dry on the skimmate. Cheers! Chipson1
  12. Hi, just some update of the Mazzei, I have hook up this Mazzei with a MD55, it runs for 12 hours, and this is the skimmate. Attached Picture 1

  14. Use the UV light to dry the Acrifix, the result is difference.
  15. Hi Typerobin, I did my dual injectors skimmer, it was great, producing great skimmate even better than my ETS, if your skimmer did not produce form, I think you may have to check on the clover injectors, the groves might be too big to produce fine bubbles, its quite senitive to the size fo the clovers, I did not use the clover injector is because it tends to clog easily, alot of maintainence. Hope you will solve the problem. Cheers! Chipson1
  16. If you are using Acrifix, try to remove the protection paper, it is hard to take out once it's dry. Keep it up! Chipson1
  17. I think to DIY is simple, to make it nice and pro will have to pay a price, nevertheless, nice or urgly looking skimmer has no bearing on the performance. Keep it up. Cheers! Chiposn1
  18. Hi Dr, I don't think there is much difference between the swirling and direct spray in term of skimmate result, it's more like a trend. Similar to type of skmmate, there are much arguements about what skmmate is better, wet or dry. It works both way, the PM Bullet 1 to 3 all use direct injection, of which their reaction box is taller than the swirl one, and a baffle is needed to prevent micro bubbles being released into the sump. PM XL and Pro all use swirl method, they either eliminate the box or shrunk the size of the box, if swirling technic is employed no reaction box is needed, the box is more for production convenience, the swirling technic will also prevent micro bubbles escape into the sump. Cheers! Chipson1
  19. Joolye, Good skimmate, thanks to the invention of Beckett and the adoption of this technology in protein skimmer. Happy skimming. Cheers! Chipson1
  20. He is using Eheim 1262 for Mazzei 684 injector. It should perform even better if a more powerful pump is being used. Attached 2nd picture
